My buddy ordered Arkham Asylum from Amazon, got a shrink-wrapped blank disc.

How does something like this even happen? My theory is that someone else ordered it, swapped discs, and returned it to Amazon who promptly re-wrapped it and shipped it to my buddy. Thankfully, Amazon is letting him exchange it.

Also, I've heard horror stories about people purchasing game consoles at Wal-Mart only to unbox a brick. Not a bricked console--a literal ceramic brick.

Anyone else experienced stuff like this?

Your buddy got off pretty easy. Retailers can be very difficult to deal with when shit like this happens because they will think that you're trying to pull a fast one on them. Thankfully I've never experienced anything like this.

I'm so glad we don't have forums that we can post a few sentences about a topic and try and start a discussion about things contained in that topic. That'd just waste space instead of getting people all excited about posting a proper blawg.

If this was in the forums, then only like 10 people will read about it.

Also, wtf is up with that instruction manual cover? Oh, and did he check out the disc and see if there was any sweet, sweet porn on it?

I'm also glad that Destructoid is devoid of jesters who, using extreme sarcasm, disparage others about trivial issues. If that was the case, this would be a dim, oppressive place to be.

@ MrSadistic

No sweet, sweet porn. No data of any kind, unfortunately.

Holy crap. A brick? Seriously?

Amazon : I had a kind of similar experience, but with shipping. When you receive a package, but you're not home, they give a notice to come and pick it up yourself. He left the damn thing on my doorstep, no signature. 100$ hdd, stolen. Talk about incompetent shipping. They sent me another one. Their customer service is good at least.

Help threads in forums suck and no one ever reads them.

And this is something I'd blog about - this is relevant, especially if some folks have been on the receiving end of cinderblocks in their new console box.

Blogging is different from posting a question.

Also, cocks.

Someone i worked with use to work for Amazon UK and he said some staff used to use that trick to steal CD, DVD and games, Because you can tell if the box is empty so they would use put black CD in.

A black CD? That's racist.

Actually I wouldn't blame amazon. They're not really in the habit of resealing stuff. It was probably a person who returned it resealed (you open it carefully and then take out the disc and put it back). Also possibly someone resealed it but I don't find that quite as likely because usually it's a heat shrink wrap which is obvious and everyone uses y-folds nowadays.

Had this happen to me once at compusa (cept there was no blank cd, just an empty case). Thankfully the game was $3 and they didn't give a shit that it was empty and just gave me another one (although it was an AWESOME game and completely worth the $3 :P)

Back when the Dreamcast launched my friend's uncle bought one from EB, took the innards out, and returned the outside case of the console with some quarters taped in it for weight. I was curious as to why he used quarters instead of rocks.

You can't get away with that stuff these as they take your drivers license at EB.
