This Friday I will be setting up a TF2 server for everyone to play on. Server IP will be the same as the one I tested, 64.198.241.17:27015. Right now I don't have the server running but I should have it up tomorrow afternoon.
There will be 18 slots and I will set the password to 'dtoid'. Also, don't be turned of by the pings, they will likely be between 150 - 200 for most people. Unlike many of Valve's older games, the netcode has REALLY been improved and you won't notice any stuttering or lag, unless one of my house mates decides to torrent something huge...
I will not be able to join in, so if anyone would like the rcon password to admin, get a hold of me on the dtoid IRC channel. (#Destructoid @ gamesurege.net)
Just to Reiterate:
IP: 64.198.241.17:27015
Pass: dtoid
Location: Central Illinois
Relative Pings When Full - Midwest 75 - 100, East/West Coasters 150 - 200 depending on ISP
Well...I can't stand playing with anything over 100 ping generally. The game does have great lag compensation but it still doesn't feel quite the same. I'm definitely in for FNF but I'm not sure if I would join your server or not...
@DeusPayne Its because I'm running it off a residential connection, its fast and has the capacity for the server, just not the 25 megabit connection you see with most rental servers.
In the tests I ran last week despite the high pings when the server got full no one noticed any stuttering or failure of hits to register, so I wouldn't be worried about it.
I'll definitely be there man! As long as it doesn't fill up that is!
By the way, even though the ping was a little higher than normal, I can assure everyone else that there was NO lag in game when we all played on it the other day...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

in any case , on friday make sure to join the Destructoid steam groups chatroom
do this by opening your friends list
click on the V(down) arrow next to "destructoid" then "join group chat room"
all server arrangements will be handled there, instead of us trying to coordinate through comments in a cblog.
