The Caffeine Knight has arrived!

Obligatory hello
Hello Destructoid!

It seems as if I've finally built up the courage to go ahead and introduce myself here in the C-blogs. The name is CaffeineKnight (I know, cheesy name, but I love it), or Joe as some people in the real world call me. I haven't been around Destructoid for too long, but I have been here for a good while. I try to stay active in the forums but I just don't have enough free time to dedicate myself to something like that. Some of you may know me from there, but more than likely not. Anyways, I decided it was time to make myself more active in the D-toid community, and what better way to do that than getting in on some sweet C-blog action?

A little about the real me
[serious]I'm 20 years old and I live in a small town in Florida (close to Tampa) that is literally the worst place I have ever lived in my life. I spent most of my childhood years in Indiana, which has absolutely nothing to do. To be honest though, I enjoyed my life a lot more up there than I do down here. When I didn't have anything to do or anyone to hang out with, my imagination flourished. Those years of my life are what made me who I am today and for that reason, Indiana will always hold a special place in my heart. When I moved down here there was a lot more to do and a lot more kids to hang out with. I was introduced to so many things that I had absolutely no idea about before that I ended up getting myself into a lot of trouble. Long story short, I'm trying to get back to my roots and get away from the life I've built for myself up until this point. I'm trying to reignite some of my old hobbies and habits, which videogames just happens to be one.[/serious]

In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, go out and have a good time, write whatever is on my mind (Need to do more of this), cruise through some of my favorite internet websites and of course play video games. Obviously, I do more than that, but I had to include the generic "What I like to do" part of the introduction.

I have a tendency to be a little wordy sometimes, so instead of sitting here writing a fucking book about who I am and what I'm about, I'm going to "listify" myself.

My Best Traits (Seen through the eyes of me)
- I pride myself on being optimistic as much as possible. I try to see the best in everything and everyone, no matter how bad things might be going.
- I like to think that I have a pretty charming personality. I thank the Lord (and alcohol) that I'm able to interact with people as well as I do. I'm no fucking Tom Cruise, but I can hold a conversation. I bring this up because I used to be crippled by social anxiety. I managed to get over it and have found my life has been improved dramatically.
- My individuality. I'm proud of who I am and what I enjoy, and I would not trade it for the world.

The Dark Side of Me
- Not even two minutes ago, I wrote how my social interaction is one of my redeeming qualities, but that doesn't mean that I'm perfect. I have a tendency to push people away and can't seem to maintain a lasting relationship with anyone for an extended period of time. I always end up doing something stupid or selfish that pushes people away.
- I won't go in the details on this one (Because I don't want to get too emo on ya'll), but I have been battling with a certain habit for a long time that has really ruined a lot of aspects of my life. On the plus side, I feel as if that is a obstacle that I may be close to overcoming.

Let's get to the good stuff, eh?

Now that we have the real life shit out of the way, let's get into what really matters - My nerd side. My gaming life started on the computer. I never really had any consoles when I was younger, so I spent a lot of time playing whatever game I could get my hands on. Not to say that I didn't play the classic console games when I was younger (Grandma's house had a nintendo and the good shit), but I would say that the early PC games are what made me the gamer I am today. The first game I ever beat was the original Commander Keen at the young age of 8 (maybe 6 or 7). I spent most of my under 10 years playing PC platformers like Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Cosmos Crystal Adventures (name?), Hocus Pocus, etc., etc. After that I moved on to slightly more mature games in the form of early first person shooters. I moved from Commander Keen to Wolfenstein 3-d (Favorite game of all time) and Doom. I pretty much played every FPS on the PC in the earlier years of the genre. Strangely, I find that the FPS genre is the least attractive to me now a days due to the lack of quality titles (Not that there aren't any, because there are some amazing ones).

Currently, I have a PC that can barely run any of the newer games, so I spend most of my time on my 360. I own a Nintendo DS, PSP, Xbox 360, Playstation 2, Playstation 1, Nintendo Gamecube, SNES and a GBA. I don't have as much time as I would like to play games, but I always stay buried in the latest happenings in the vidya gaming world. I spend more time reading and writing about games than I actually do playing them. This is something that I most assuredly trying to change.

I haven't really been playing a lot of the new releases due to the fact that I have a backlog the size of my intestines (Biology, FTW!). I probably spend most of my gaming time playing RPG's, although I'm starting to feel burned out on them. I haven't been able to get off of the motherfuckers ever since the golden days of the JRPG (Snes, FTW!). Right now, I'm working through the JRPG library on the PS1. There are so many quality RPGS on the original Playstation that I sometimes feel as if I'll never finish them all in this lifetime. After that, I'm gonna start working through the backlog on the PS2, which is even more fucking massive. I'm excited for this and dreading it at the same time.

Closing Statement
I'm starting to feel like I'm maybe dragging this out a little too much, so let me wrap it up. I'm hoping to become an active part of the community and possibly make some good friends along the way. Never in all of my years on the internet have I come across such a tight knit community. I absolutely love the way that Destructoid interacts with and supports it's community. There is truly no other place like it on the internet. I know everyone always says that, but I truly mean it. I'm really hoping that you can find it in you, Destructoid, to welcome me in to your humble abode. I do not know yet what exactly I will be contributing to the community, but I'm sure I'll figure out my place in due time. I'll see you motherfuckers around the blogs and forums.

I brought lube. I know how you get famous around these parts.
Sorry for the large image, had a little trouble resizing it for some reason.

Nice intro! Your writing has nice flow, so I wouldn't mind reading even more if you kept writing in this way. :)

Heh. I live close to Tampa myself and it's always been kind of crappy since I've lived in between Pasco and Pinellas the majority of my life. Hell, I want to get away too! XD

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

 about me

This is me!

That picture was taken a couple years back. It's pretty much the only picture of me I have due to lack of a digital camera. I'll put something up more site-specific soon. I felt I needed to explain it for some reason.

Facts about me
-I live in Florida (Its fucking hot and it sucks)
-I play videogames (Yeah, I know)
-I like girls. (Shocking!)

Facts about You
-You are reading my sidebar.
-You like Destructoid.
-You just got done fapping to some Chun-li hentai!
-You suck.

Contrary to popular belief, I do play videogames, when I have the time anyways. Which happens to be all the time lately since I am taking a break from work (Can't find a job).

Currently Playing

Final Fantasy IX : Enjoying it a lot. Never got a chance to play it when it was originally released. Nearing end of 3rd disc.

Cave Story : Such a great indie game. It's just some great and simple platforming fun with a zany story thrown in for good measure.

Shadow Watch : This one is interesting. I had never heard of this game up until recently when I found it laying in a Goodwill store manual and all. I picked it up due simply to the fact that the box art is amazing looking and the manual is fucking huge (Means its a good game ;)). Somehow this slipped right under my radar back when it was released but it seems to have gotten pretty positive reviews. If you get a chance, I would definitely recommend trying this out. It brings me back to the Commandos and Desperado days of my PC gaming stage.
