In a recent interview Ubisoft’s Jason Vandenberghe, Red Steel 2’s creative director, delivered a status report to
Official Nintendo Magazine that contained “56 utterings of the word ‘cool’. Dear, god. I suppose any
creative dialogue or flowery language in Ubisoft’s follow up to the astonishingly disappointing Wii shooter cannot be credited to Mr. Vandengerghe. It is interesting to see the sequel that’s
art style and overall quality looks remarkably improved over its predecessor has a creative director with the vocabulary of a third grader all hopped up on pop rocks and coke, ranting and raving about how cool his new toy is.
Read on to see some of the hilarity that ensued:
Visuals:
“We’ve got a lot of polish on the visuals and
cool lighting...It really looks unbelievably
cool.”
“What you saw before was the polished core- and though it looked really
cool, now we’ve got an awesome base to build on.”
Combat, Gameplay and OMFG Swords:
“The lift move is really
cool, it’s come on a long way. We’ve really gone to town on letting you toss bad guys around...I can’t wait for people to get their hands on it, it’s so
cool.”
“Combat is so
cool now...”
“It’s really
cool, really tight now. I think it’s really clicking for me.”
“It’s all about the
cool sword-you really need Motion plus for that kind of
cool gameplay.”
Release Date:
Summer in the games industry is a really intense place to be. We’ve got a
cool, cool buzz an great momentum. That’s exciting because we felt like we were on to something
cool. So it’s easier to work hard and make sure it’s
cool, we feel like we have something really
cool and we don’t want to undercut that.”
Single Player Only Game:
“The
cool thing about being single player only is we can concentrate on making it as
cool as possible.”
Motion Controls:
“The game is so
cool with Motion Plus that it just makes sense for us to go for it and bundle with the hardware.”
“I hope it gives gamers something really
cool to do with their Wii. It’s a really
cool game for core gamers.”
I shit you not Dtoid. This man is the creative leader behind Red Steel 2. I usually don’t make a habit of buying games magazines, but I figured I would be bored to tears at work...and that Wii Sports Resort Frisbee prize looked too good to pass up. But this interview made it worth the magazine’s asking price. Oh the mirth...
Also, Ubisoft should learn to distribute their franchises better. It's cool and all we are getting Red Steel 2, but, seriously, getting flooded by all their shit while the other systems do not witness a little bit of MyCoach or Imagina games? Horseshit.
(No, not really)
I have no idea since I've never read them, but do OXM and Playstation Magazine do the same thing? I mean sometimes you just have a slow month and being a wing of the company you're probably pushed to support something or other. Only other game magazine I've read is Game Informer and they seem to advertise the hell out of shitty games with big names.
As far as Ubisoft goes, I'd rather they just go away. I can't think of anything truly great they've developed aside from Beyond Good and Evil.
And don't say Rayman or Prince of Persia. No.
That's great to hear (especially considering the quality of the original), but think it'll have to be amazing to be a real success... no mutliplayer is kind of a buzz kill.
Rayman =/= Rabbids
Played the original on my Saturn...wasn't a fan.
