I currently sit in a lounge in Houston International Airport, delayed and laid over awaiting for the rain to stop drowning the tarmac, eagerly awaiting my aeroplane headed for bright and sunny Ontario California. The flight from London to Houston was surprisingly short, mostly because I got my game on.
The plane came equipped with cheesy knock offs of classic Atari games that entertained me for brief spells, before my rage set in. These "Arcade" titles, while they resembled the originals, were god awful attempts to blatantly copy something. I suffered through Space Invasion, Millipede, Table Tennis, and Meteors! I suppose the simpler a game is, the harder it is to emulate effectively. The Space Invaders and Asteroids knock offs were the worst offenders of the lot. It makes me wish I knew someone with a 2600...or a shower, so I could cleanse myself of this sick filth. Apparently, neither are in supply in this hell hole.
After I was finished with that, I used my newly acquired DS Lite for the first time. I found a copy of Bangai-O Spirits for 5 pounds a few days before and thought it was a good deal. But it's worth about 5 pounds from what I can tell. It looks like a flash game and is brutally difficult as well.
Luckily, before I left the London terminal I found a store that I had a giftcard for that had DS games. Score! This meant I picked up New Super Mario Bros for free and still have money left over. If there is a silver cloud to this day, NSMB is it. The game is fantastic...if a little floaty. Damn it. I wanted to be positive about something and I screwed that up too. I blame Texas for my mood. I need to get back to Califooooooorrrrrnia.
