About Me

Hai my name is Kyle. Things I like include: burritos, beer, skateboarding, the environment, painting, baseball, and those videogame contraptions. I have a passion for the bizarre Japanese stuff, but have a pretty eclectic taste in games. I'm the guy making snarky comments about the latest AAA titles and raving about the latest, greatest thing that'll be lucky to self half a million copies.

Capcom Wants To Marry Nintendo
Kyle MacGregor | 3:03 PM on 08.12.2009 23 comments

Capcom and Nintendo are actively seeking to improve the relationship between themselves by working together to spread game demos and help one another coordinate their public events. As example of this they will be working together to launch Monster Hunter 3 in North America.

Nintendo was so impressed with the visuals Capcom has created for Monster Hunter 3 that the Zelda team has felt extra pressure thrust upon them to compete with Capcom’s achievements for their next title.

Tsujimoto thought the Wii remote lacked a sufficient number of buttons for MH3, so Capcom worked with Nintendo to create the Classic Controller Pro. Nintendo has already released this redesign of the Classic Controller for Monster Hunter 3’s release in Japan.

Additionally, yesterday Capcom confirmed the next game in the Devil Kings (Sengoku Basara) franchise for the Nintendo Wii. Add this to Capcom’s already spectacular lineup for Nintendo systems in the coming months that and includes: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronciles, Spyborgs, and Ace Attorney Investigations.

Ideally this will result in Nintendo vs. Capcom.

I'm fine with Nintendo and Capcom getting married. Two of my favorite developers right there.

The classic controller pro has the same numbers of buttons as the normal one, just those oddly placed Z1 and Z2 buttons are changed. I just wish it didn't have the stupid DS dpad.

I still wish I could see a monster hunter game on the PS3/360. Monster Hunter + MT Framework Engine = me on the floor drooling.

Sounds cool. Not sure if I'll actually play Monster Hunter 3, but I dig the Classic Controller Pro.

I remember many moons ago there was a lot of speculation that Nintendo's big "megaton" was going to be them buying Capcom. Of course it never happened. Nobody really uses the term megaton for big announcements anymore, do they??

Also I'm getting excited for this game. The classic controller pro looks pretty sweet.

They'll never be able to buy Capcom.

We'll yeah they have the cash. But I don't think Cap will want that, it wouldn't be good for their current business plans yo.

I adore CAPCOM but would hate to see them go first party as it seems that CAPCOM is one of the few truly neutral 3rd parties left. They don't put something on the Wii, DS, PSP or iPhone because they think they won't be able to get away with such a poor effort on another console.

They put something on a certain console because they think that's where they think it'll go best. The same goes for the Xbox360 and PS3. They haven't taken some unnatural bias to a single company and that's why I think they're probably so great at what they do.

I wouldn't call this a love affair with Nintendo.

Capcom has been great all around this generation of consoles, with only a few slips (Bionic Commando)

Capcom are stars of the industry, because they are one of the few japanese developers, to move forward in 3d tech with their games, like we do in the west. Because they moved fast on this, and follow a very Valve like business model, they are almost more western in some regards, but atleast tread the tightrope of both worlds well.

Nintendo are impressed by Monster Hunter 3, because Capcom work on their own decent graphic engines, something Nintendo should also be doing but fail at, because as far as they are jadedly concerned, graphics don't matter that much (cough...bs...cough).

I'd hate to see them merge, because Nintendo have lost some of their marbles, and fail to give gamers and developers, what they want, whereas Capcom do just the opposite, with a great community spirit and always connect their customers.

What they are doing is just good business, after previous successful endevours. Wii, DS is where the money is (besides 360), love it or hate it.

Just a little suggestion:

Just call it the "Sengoku Basara." The moniker "Devil Kings" is within the same circle of Localization hell as Beat 'n' Groovy and Bomberman Act zero.(Yes, BAZ was released in Japan, but it's still just as bad.)

However, Nintendo vs Capcom would be beyond epic. Also, A Zelda with MH3 graphics = make it happen dammit.

I don't think there's any danger of Nintendo acquiring Capcom. For some reason I think Nintendo gets more out of Capcom with them being friends than a parent company. I love both companies, but seeing collaboration is great.

It's also nice to see a third party setting the standard for Nintendo and them having to be reactionary and worried about being outdone for once.

I would be all over Nintendo/Smash Bros vs. Capcom. Can you imagine how well that would sell? I'm half tempted to go over to Capcom Unity and give Seth Killian an earful.

"Ideally this will result in Nintendo vs. Capcom."

Dude I have been piping this idea forever and I was just about to mention this.

Ness + Tron Bonne + Sakura VS Ryu + Link + Captain Falcon?

Yes please.

Anyway, I have seen Capcom and Nintendo as very close companies for a long time, especially when they collaborated to make the GBA Zelda games as you see them together in the initial screens. I get disappointed soemtimes of the lack of cooperation between each other in more games systems like the Wii. They went into a small fight when Resident Evil 4 was not a GameCube exclusive, but it looks like they are getting back along.

jesus nintendo vs capcom would be.. fucking strange.

but i guess this does make it a more plausible thing to put megaman in the next smash bros.

Capcom vs. Nintendo would be abso-goddamn-lutely FUCK awesome.

I want that Classic Pro controller, too.

All Capcom needs to do is release a Resident Evil: Mercenaries all-star game on PS360 and they'll be the undisputed king of the generation.

If Capcom vs. Nintendo were to actually be developed, it should be in the 3D free-for-all style of Power Stone.
