About three weeks ago in the Destructoid IRC chat I asked if anyone had ever played
Trap Gunner. I was met with resounding "no's." When I suggested how great it was, Riser Glen I believe it was, suggested I do a blog on it. Good idea.
Trap Gunner is easily one of the most overlooked games in video game history. I'm not gonna say that about just any game either. I've been around ok? I'm not a fucking idiot. I know what is a good game and what isn't. This is a very good game with extremely fun multiplayer that is unlike anything you have played before.
The premise of the game is you are trying to kill your opponent in a one on one fight but you will do so by setting up traps and shooting them with guns. It's how I imagined Spy Vs. Spy always wanted to be but could never figure out. You choose from 7 different characters each with their own combination of traps at their disposal. Most traps are to be used in combination with another. For example, one trap actually traps you. But if you want to be a real bitch you set up the traps that will send your opponent in a certain direction. So you can send him up the board then hit another trap and go right then hit another trap and go down and then, wham, he's stuck in a hole where you can then whale on his defenseless self.
You probably won't be able to find Trap Gunner preowned anywhere (like GameStop), so I would try
eBay or
Amazon, but trust me if you want some top notch 2 player vs. action, this is a game you have to play.
P.S. To me, this is what the community should be about, watching each other's backs when it comes to awesome games. The reason I joined this site in the first place was because of the insistance of one man telling those who hadn't bought Planet Puzzle League to buy it immediately. To me, this is what Destructoid is all about.
Because life isn't fair. seriously though, if this game were an XBLA game it would get played as much as Bomberman I swear.
Also, not sure if pointing out missed games should be THE use of the community, it's definitely one of the better ones.
(P.S. - go play Klonoa)
And Butmac, I've bought at least 3-4 games due to Destructoid now. Gotta love my Red Star.
I LOVED that game. I never could find a copy, but I played the hell out of the demo that I had. Maybe I should try to look that one up again...
