If you haven't heard of the foursome that is "Vampire Weekend" then you can now officially consider me your best friend and front-runner for Best Man AND Maid of Honor at your wedding. Hailing from Columbia University, the guys of Vampire Weekend are further proof that Ivy league graduates are just better at everything. Conan O'Brien started this trend.
Vampire Weekend definitely earns the title of my current favorite band. Their self-titled album is nothing short of rocking awesome sauce on a disc. They're also one of those bands that turned their internet cred into real life actual street cred. (If anyone needs to borrow cred, I have like 6,000).
Vampire Weekend
A-Punk
Analysis: This is actually their first single and it gives a pretty good picture of what their "style" is. Guitar on this is very crisp and the bass line is probably the most pronounced on this track than on any other song they have. Plus, you gotta through this one in here as it's the "pop hit."
Oxford Comma
Analysis: "Who gives a fuck about an Oxford Comma??"
I'm not one to analyze lyrics or be a theological emo prick and read far too in to songs...but dammit if I don't love this line. The drums for this one are extremely simple as you can see in the video, the guy is using a single tom. Highlights here are the vocals as this is a fun song to sing. I'll be performing all week in the lobby.
Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
Analysis: This song reminds me a bit of "Joker and the Thief" in that it would be very hard to sing and play the lead guitar part at the same time. This video is the best I could find but it's cool because of the added drumline, but maybe that's because I know the original version.
BONUS SONG
I was going to include this next song into the pack BUT it's violin heavy and I don't think it could be pulled off in Rock Band. However, if it could, it would be a great tune. But you don't have to take my word for it...
yeah this album really suprised me, and i love the drumming on mansard roof, but i don't know how well they'd translate to RB. the guitar and bass is scarce in most of the tracks, but the vocals and drums would definately be a blast.
I love Vampire Weekend. Their album is good listening when you just wanna sit outside and have a drink with friends.
Also, you got my hopes up. I thought these were really coming to Rock Band and the reason 'dream' was in the title was because it was so amazing that it was actually coming out. Sadness.
Because of their name I've been looking at their record for awhile at the record store behind my apartment. Glad I didn't buy it, but I'm sure my girlfriend would love this.
Hey, I go to Columbia and I’ve heard of these guys!
...I just hadn’t heard any of their music until now. I like it, but these four songs sound kinda similar (clean guitar, quick riffs). Still, I’ll have to check them out further. Thanks, Butmac!
I'm in the same ballpark as B-Radicate. YOU TRICKED ME!
But I do love me some Vampire Weekend. I'm so glad you mentioned Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, because I'd love to play that repetitive (but great) guitar line and that drum beat on Rock Band
Vampire Weekend can blow me. Nothing against them or their music, which is actually really good, but their association with my personal life is a dark specter.

I've gotten someone each time I post these. :( It's not my intent!

These are the kind of guys I expect to see in an on campus club on open mic night.
