I consider myself an ardent Guitar Hero fan. I've been playing it since Nov 21, 2005 (birthday...yay). So in playing Guitar Hero for almost 2 years now...I feel like I'm pretty good. I got like over 500 of the achievement points in GH2 so I never looked at the achievements for GH3 cause I just wanted to be surprised when I rocked through them all.
Son of a bitch.
These achievements are RIDICULOUS.
Example #1: Enlightened Guitarist - Gold Star 20 songs on Expert
For those that don't know, to gold star a song you must hit every note. Dude that's not even something I can work towards...that's just never gonna happen.
Example #2: Buy a Guitar Already - Play through a career on the Hard or Expert difficulty using a standard controller
Protip: I can't even beat hard mode WITH the guitar (damn you Slayer).
Example #3: Meet Your Maker - Beat one of the creators of Guitar Hero 3 at their own game
This makes kitty sad. I know I'll never be on if they are doing a promo thing to "beat the developers." And even if I was, I would never actually get to be picked as one of the Xbox Live members to play. And even if I did, I would not be able to beat him!
So there you have it, there are more ridiculously hard ones, these are the hardest though. I'm actually not even complaining. I'm kinda glad they are this hard. It gives masochists something to do I guess.
Butmac, I was in the same position as you with Slayer, it fucking sucks. But don't get pissed, cause you'll feel like an idiot when your playing Devil went down to Georgia in the final battle. I did. I'm about to burn my house down I'm so fucking frustrated.
Wow. I agree, those achievements are barely possible.
I'm all for having ridiculous achievements, especially those that force you to play in some ways you normally wouldn't try, but some of these are just ridiculous. Only the top few of Guitar Hero players will get your first example. I have no desire to play the game with a controller, since using the guitar is pretty much the point of the game. And the last one seems completely unfair to those that don't happen to be in the right place at the right time.
Sadly, there's not much you can do about it, unless you want to devote your life to the game. And at that point, you should just learn to play real guitar.
They're difficult, nigh impossible, but it doesn't bother me for two reasons:
A) I don't really care about achievements.
and
B) That's what achievements should be, an actual achievement. Not like in Madden, where you get 50 points for turning your system on without electrocuting yourself. They're supposed to be bragging rights. Instead, they've turned into nothing more than a diversion. Instead of showing off your "mad skillz", all it really does is show off your ability to hermit yourself and keep your Gamefly Queue up to date.
In that respect I completely agree with you - it's just ALL games need to acknowledge achievements should be that damn hard. But you make a good point.
My roommate just got it today. He played through the whole game in 1 sitting on expert. He 5 starred every song, and got at least half of the achievements. I'm just saying.
There's a trick to get the 'Buy a guitar already' achievement. You have to beat the game on hard or expert, after the credits are done and you're at the main menu, turn off the Les Paul guitar. Now take your normal controller, turn it on. Go to career, whatever difficulty you beat it on, and chose a song and venue. You should unlock the achievement before you even have to play a song =]
How about getting 15 achievement points for beating it on expert? Its fucking ridiculous that don't even retroactively grant you the lower difficulty level achievements, ala Halo 3. The person who came up with these achievements is a real shitbiscuit.
Also, I've heard that the "Meet Your Maker" achievement is viral. Meaning if someone beats a developer, someone who faces that person now has the chance to get it from them, and so on and so forth.
I'm annoyed by how they did the Co-Op Achievements. Yesterday I went through Co-Op Career with someone, we were both signed into our respective XBL Accounts. After the last song I look at my list, only to find that I got no fucking achievements, only the Player 1 slot got them. Fucking retarded.
ugh, these are terrible, the "meet your maker" being the worst. I mean, is there an achievement in Halo 3 to get the Recon armor? Is this kind of thing fair?

And i agree that some are hard as hell like the enlightened guitarist you mention but yeah, they are achievements, bragging rights.
Also, lol @ #3. Theres a GH3 weekend coming up, you lose nothing trying, besides there are going to be giveaways.
Also, not as hard as the DOAX2 achievements!
