I'm not gonna lie. I really liked Diddy Kong Racing for the N64. It had great tracks, the multiplayer was well implemented, the graphics were beautiful, there were awesome hidden things to find, the characters were fun and their skills varied, but most importantly, you could choose from THREE different vehicles.

I can't remember any game before DKR that let you race against different vehicles, like a plane and a boat, while you are in a kart. That was pretty heavy stuff for a 7th grader.

Time passed though, and I always remembered DKR very fondly when I thought of it. Then I heard they were making it for the DS and thought that it would be pretty good. After playing it for only about 30 minutes, I was sucked in completely. Everything that I loved about the first DKR was still in there but there was more to do and it was portable now. The game is challenging against the computer at times, but if you play with 4 other people, I would dare say that it'd be more fun that Mario Kart DS if only because of more options and ways to play.

If you liked Diddy Kong Racing for the 64 but never tried it on the DS, let me whole-heartedly recommend it to you. It's awesome.
