Okay, so I'm probably not going to play Turning Point on it, but I recently got a new computer. I only have one picture... but it's totally awesome. Hi there, my name is Brilliam, and I am about to brag, so if you are not into that kinda shit, move along.
It took me months of saving my pennies (I live like common people, I tend to do whatever common people do) but I finally put it together. I think it came out to a bit over one large (that's over $1000 to those who don't remember the 90s), but it is worth every penny.
LIST YOU SHOULD SKIP IF YOU HATE THIS TECHIE SHIT:
Intel Quad Core Q6600
Asus P5K-SE
2x1 gigs (so far) of OCX RAM
Asus GeForce 9600GT w/ 512 RAM
500GB HD and 250GB HD
Some DVD writer
Antec Sonata III in Pee-anno black!
But that's not the shit I care about. The real gem is my monitor. It's a debranded, refurbished HP w2207:
Now, this was the first time I ever actually used a monitor this big. 22" big, in fact. All shiny and shit. At first, it literally gave me feelings of agoraphobia. I thought, "this is way too fucking big, what am I going ot do with it all? I feel lost inside it when I used it! Mommy, I'm scared!"
After a while, though, I got used to it. These things, when you buy them new/HP branded, they're almost $400, and I got mine for $200 + shipping... 'cause I know a guy. I love "knowing a guy." It's a super-pretty monitor, almost to a fault-- if I'm editing images, even the ugliest shit looks like a Picasso. The best two things about this monitor, though, I haven't yet mentioned:
1. A VGA and a DVI input (you will understand later)
2. 90º tilt
This means I can plug in my computer and my Xbox 360. This means I can switch between the two at will. And, this means I can finally play shit in glorious, glorious TATE.
So, really, I need to thank Destructoid; if not for you guys, I would have never seeked out TATE. It was Topher that inspired me to get back into shmups. And, I would like to thank the Turning Point rig for getting me off my ass and back into PC gaming-- even though I didn't win, my deep re-emergent man-lust for the ol' PC platform spurred by the contest brought me to the place where I would put this fucker together!
Ironically, all I've really been playing on the TATE is Space Invaders, Galaga, and Donkey Kong on MAME... but still. Totally awesome.
Here's me looking mildly amused wearing someone else's glasses. I look like this when I play games on this monitor, only the glasses are different.
Also, if you get a chance, go
here and read some shit then make some
noise.
Kacie, I am so excited to get angry responses of people telling me that, like, whoa, that contest is, like, soooo over. When did you change your name?
Nice Brilliam. Now you too can experience those browns and gray colors of Gear of War pop to life.
I can barely handle 20"
of course that probably has something to do with the fact that my 'computer space' is tiny and my monitor is never farther than a foot away from my eyes
As far as 9600 vs. 8800, the differences were so slight that I just went for the cheapest-- in this case, I got the 9600 for under 100 Canadian after MIR :)
