Recently, a tier list for Street Fighter IV was revealed:
GOD TIER: Sagat
HIGH TIER: Dictator (M. Bison), Ryu, Zangief
MID TIER: Akuma, Boxer (Balrog), Rufus, Blanka, Chun Li, Ken, Abel, Guile
LOW TIER: Dhalsim, Viper, Honda, Fuerte
SHIT TIER: Claw (Vega)
It's basically what I expected. I watch quite a few videos of Japanese competitions and Sagat is pretty much dominant. Whenever I see a Claw player, they seem to struggle against whomever they're fighting at the time.
Other than those two, the other characters seem to be on even footing. This is definitely not like 3rd Strike where Chun mirror matches bored me away from watching many tournaments. I ended up just praying for someone to play a character other than Ken, Yun, and Chun. Hell, it was a treat to see a Dudley or Urien.
With this list, we still must remember that the game's only been out for three or so months. It's very hard to compile a concrete tier list for a game with an underdeveloped metagame. Over time, we'll be seeing changed to these tiers.
While it saddens me that my character, Abel, is slightly below average, I'm still very satisfied at how balanced Street Fighter IV is turning out to be.

But what about Dan?????? :P
Interesting. Not sure if she will make it to the arcade version, but from what I've seen of Sakura... she is probably up near Sagat or above. Scary stuff...
Pretty interesting. Although there seems to be one dominant character as of right now, the high and mid tiers seem pretty diverse.
Also, inb4 "Tiers don't exist." They do. Go play Twelve because he looks cool.
Dan is his own tier. And the Dan tier is always last.
Plus he's only in the home version.
@Danmartigan,
Sakura is too awesome. She was pulling off some Marvel vs Capcom 2 shit at the Street Fighter Club last Friday. Air juggles for days. Does a ton of chip damage too.
I would definitely put her in God tier.
Akuma is absolute shit. No stamina AT ALL. I nearly perfected an Akuma, but the scrub made me block an air fireball. Two combos and Akuma is done for.
This game is going to be so good on the 360 and PS3.
It's sad to see El Fuerte as low tier, but it doesn't surprise me. Despite that though a low tier character can still be deadly in the right hands.
Challenger: Here you go.
@Casual
Yea that sounded pretty fun. I saw a vid of some guy who won like 45 consecutive matches using Sakura.
With all the new SF games coming, I wish the PS3 and 360 versions could use the same network. Sony should just purchase a single gold membership for everyone on PSN :)
I'm surprised El Fuerte is still so low even with that crazy infinite combo. I figured that would have bumped him up to at LEAST above-average.
Vega being crappy makes me sad. :( But Sakura being crazy awesome makes me happy. :)
@Gen Eric Gui:
It's not an infinite, just a long combo string. They can eventually escape it. Plus it's really hard to setup. I rarely see it done.
Oro had an infinite in 3rd Strike and it wasn't all that good.
@RobotFart:
Much obliged. Awesome.
Oh, it's not an infinite? I had heard it was. Guess that explains it. I had also heard it was quite a bit easier to do.
I feel this will change once the console version hits.
i'm glad to hear that Sakura is win still. Seeing I plan to pick her up and Viper. Though i'm quite sure I saw Viper in at least mid last I checked. It wasn't that she was bad....it's just she has....something wrong with her. (I can't remember what I read.)
I also expected Abel to be at least high. seeing everyone keeps saying he was good. But I really can't tell seeing watching vids doesn't do anything close to playing it.
I also agree with those Chun Mirror matches in 3s or any match consisting of chun/ken/yun. Boring and dull. I understand people trying to win but you'd think pros had some skill in learning others to win.
This is why I fap to Kuroda Hugo. I can't play the guy at all but he's a silly beast with the guy.
Challenger: No probs :)
Although Akuma does take damage easily, he is well set up to keep out of trouble.. as long as you don't mess up, which is exactly what I did at an arcade last friday where some guy wiped the floor with me using ken.
Bloody pros :P
Dan is Dan Tier.
Hopefully Will Smith A.K.A. Will 2k A.K.A. Big Will A.K.A. The Fresh Prince is in the console version of SFIV.
This makes me want to learn Vega first now.
@Shin Oni:
Kuroda, RX, and KSK are my 3rd Strike gods. They inspired me to play Q, Urien, and Alex respectively.
Hugo's great too. Megaton Press FTW.
Fuck tier lists.
i'd put ken a tier above ryu and akuma.
@Galagabug
Nah, Ryu is definitely one of the best in SFIV. He's the only one with a full screen Ultra; 8 ticks of chip damage is nothing to sneeze at.
@Shin Oni,
Those guys are my fav too. Have you ever seen Yamazaki and his Twelve? That guy is pure hit-and-run. Has some really evil cross-ups too.
@Robotfart,
Akuma just needs to be tweaked a little. He takes waaaaaay too much damage and dizzies waaaaaay to easy. He should be better than mid-tier in my opinion.
