I love all genres but 2D platformers will always be my favorite. A lot of great new games have come out in the recent times, but I honestly don't believe anything will ever top the SNES years. I grew up a loyal Nintendo fanboy, but (like many) realized the error of my ways too late with the passing of the Dreamcast. I miss the days when gaming was for geeks only, and anxiusly await (with both hope and dread) for the next generation of gaming...

Just a quick observation, but nearly everybody that I played online yesterday appeared to never have played a 3D fighter before. With one or two exceptions, most players never bothered to either A.) Block or B.) Sidestep. This just screams newb to me. I wonder if the marketing hype (star wars and such) for SC:IV is really bringing a lot more people into the genre, which is definitely not a bad thing. Anybody else experience this?

My noob gf beat my ass when I picked a character I didn't know. She was just button mashing. But, anyways yes I noticed.

Happens to me all the time. Only my girlfriend beats me every time even if I pick a character I know really good.

Not yet... but my game is coming...
But, yes... i think that there is more people accustomed to play Street Fighter or KoF... and there is the people that NEVER play anything before PS3 and Xbox360... :\

Sad... i hope to have some challenge when the game arrives.

LOL, she's my ex-girlfriend (not because of Soul Calibur). But she can still kick my ass in SC.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I ran into a few people using the apprentice. Of course, not like they knew anything outside the unblockable force specials, I would blame the SW characters bringing in some new faces.

Same could be said for SCII and the inclusion of Link on Gamecube. Most people played SC before...that just made it bigger.

I haven't gotten the game yet but, there are definitely going to be a lot of new players in SC4 (StAr WaRzz FTW!). Button mashing sucks.

I didn't like Darth. Maybe its because i've played the SC games since Soul Edge and love the original characters. You need to pick it up. Its fanstastic. I already made the Hulk in Character Creator.

I never bought SC3 either(last one played was SC2) So we will be on the same level. Cool

Also, this game made me want a new Bloody Roar and Primal Rage.

I'm pretty decent at fighting games, but I have difficulty blocking in SCIV. There's something about it that seems...I dunno...clunky?

i think its also that fact that they're actually playing real people. You don't really need to block in the single player game, for the most part. I was thinking pretty linear when I started up online, since I honestly haven't played too much Soul Calibur (lately at anyrate) against someone else.

I'm a blocking fool. Not doing much sidestepping though. Last I played SC was on a buddies DC. I guess I'm a noob.

Sure glad I didn't buy it for the Star Wars crap though. It just seems tacked on and silly.

They nerfed raphael terribly since SC3 so im just sticking to siegfried and setsuka atm.

I'll admit that I was a button masher for awhile on the Soul Caliber series. But an intelligent one! I didn't want to take the time to memorize combos, so I just got the general gist of how the combos were set up and started stringing together hits.

I don't do it as much any more since I'm a bit more experienced with the games, but I tend to be a very agressive player and ignore blocking for the most part. That's probably why my brother keeps kicking my ass...>.>

I have only played 2 sessions on Live so far and that was with friends who had played SC previously so I haven't met these strange, defenseless creatures you speak of. But I hope I do meet some so I can nab some easy wins xD
