RIP Circuit City
Brando | 2:46 PM on 01.16.2009 16 comments

I didn't see this posted anywhere here yet, but in case you missed the news this morning, Circuit City just announced it will be closing all 567 remaining stores and liquidating their assets. Personally, I never really cared for the store, primarily because I thought their customer service sucked really bad. However it is sad news that one of the largest video game retailers will be gone for good. You can read more about it here. Will any of you miss ol' big red? Also, deals!

We all need to keep an eye open this week end in case they start putting every thing on sale.

I need to check and see if my store is closing.

everything goes on sale starting either now, or tomorrow and I read it should last until March. Sucks for the "The City" store that opened near here just a few months ago. Also sucks for me that I got LO and Crackdown at CC last month when I could have gotten them for a lot cheaper price now.

Damn, I'd want to get in on all the sales action but my Circuit Shitty closed down a year or two ago. I can't believe it's completely going out of business though!!

Oh well, I'm more of a Best Buy person...

I may finally get a new car stereo. Nice that someone stole mine so that I could go 2 years without one.

Does anyone know if this includes The Source By Circuit City? That is the only game retailer in my town...

This place was always the biggest ripoff I dunno why anyone would shop there.

I wonder if in Canada, The Source, is going to be shut down as Circuit City owns them I do believe.

If the mother company is going down, I don't see why the others wouldn't. I'ma go scout out my local Source. I'ma pounce on it, rapin' all da dealz......

Walp, I just looked on the now/soon to be defunct CC web-site. It said that they weren't planning on closing any of the Canadian stores.

I think I've only stepped foot into a Circuit City maybe 4 or 5 times in my entire life. I've only bought from them once that I remember. Just one less magazine to look at on Sundays around holidays -- BYE!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

 about me

I love all genres but 2D platformers will always be my favorite. A lot of great new games have come out in the recent times, but I honestly don't believe anything will ever top the SNES years. I grew up a loyal Nintendo fanboy, but (like many) realized the error of my ways too late with the passing of the Dreamcast. I miss the days when gaming was for geeks only, and anxiusly await (with both hope and dread) for the next generation of gaming...
