Who are we? Brainlazy is a trio of geeks of various flavors, dedicated to that most noble of human endeavors, wasting time. Games, comics, videos, blogs... we'll take a stab at anything if it seems like it will be entertaining and we can find the people to help us pull it off.
What Does BrainLazy Do? Brainlazy is what happens when three guys with too many interests and too little focus decide to make a website. It is what happens when you decide to record what you do in your spare time. It is what happens when your main skills all center around avoiding real work.
How could you define BrainLazy?
Brainlazy (BRANE-lay-zee)
1. (adjective) The state or quality of being too tired or unmotivated to use an otherwise functional mind.
2. (proper noun) A company formed by three dorks with too much time and too little talent, dedicated to wasting it's time and yours with Reviews, Blogs, and whatever else they can think of.
3. (noun) The next website you should bookmark.
Hey guys, another week and another "Why it sucks" episode. Hope you find it interesting.
Good Points
Excellent CGI Cut scenes
Decent voice acting
Varied game play
Slick, simple controls
Halo Wars is a remarkably good attempt at a console variant of the venerable RTS genre. The flaws are detailed in the “Why it sucks” segment, but this game has many redeeming factors. Elements of other RTSs have been picked and chosen to create the best overall experience with the least stress on both the player and the system.
There is only a single resource, and gaining it requires only building and optionally upgrading a single structure type. Once in place, the resources continue to flow for as long as they are standing; reminiscent of the mass extractors from Supreme commander. “God Powers” of Age of Mythology Fame make an appearance as “Leader Powers” and add many strategic options to a skirmish as well, from freezing air units out of the sky and healing troops. There are pronounced differences between the Human and Covenant forces that add depth and variety to multiplayer as well. Even the story and cut scenes are surprisingly compelling.
The Crowning Achievement of this game, though, is the UI. All menus are in a single radial interface, with selections made by pushing an analog stick in the appropriate direction. The options are carefully aligned with units on the right and associated upgrades on the left, limiting the amount of navigation and thought involved in production and modification to afterthought status.
Troop movement, attack, and special attack are each assigned a button, making directing your troops almost automatic. Despite the severe lack of buttons on the controller when compared to a keyboard, the game manages to create a gameplay experience that seldom feels limited or cramped. This coupled with the rock paper scissors relationship between the units makes Halo Wars a very easy game to pick up, and one that quickly becomes addictive.
It's good to know that I didn't bother to buy this game, though over a year ago I was totally stoked about it even coming out. As the date for its release came closer, I got more and more skeptical about whether or not it could be done well and capture the pure essence of an RTS.
After playing the demo I had the exact same thought. Amassing all your troops into one huge force was the only realistic approach I could see to take on the enemy since it was such a pain trying to select single units and then keeping them separate.
I am looking for comments on how you think I can improve the reviews. I already bought an HD Capture card so the video will be MUCH better. But other than than, I was trying to keep it clean, concise and under three minutes.
Its still a work in progress and I would appreciate your input.
Ung... didn't we tell you last time to put more thought into these posts? Don't just embed a video and call it a blog, add some substance, do a text review as well or something. What happened to your promise of not dumping your video reviews in the blogs!?
BrainLazy: "Thank you for the input guys. Sorry for "dumping" here. It won't happen again, I assure you."
To prevent folks from getting the impression that you're just dumping vids on here I'd recommend you add some extra content to your posts in the future, just some supplementary info and images should help flesh this c-blog out.
I'm not even a PC gamer (for the most part), but I would rather RTS stays with PCs. I have yet to play an RTS on the console where the thought of playing it on a computer didn't pop into my mind...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Do you mean it was monotonous?

LIER!
Check out Sterling's reviews as an example.
Also an intro post would help introduce yourself here too and let people get to know you.
I had the script in front of me and I was thinking about copying and pasting but I thought that would be lame,
You know what, I will post all the good stuff here as well as my blog. I wanted to do the "why it sucks" in video form and why its good in word form.
I'll have this post edited tomorrow morning. I'll finish it at work.
Sorry, really this time..it won't happen again! Srsly.
I feel like an ass now. I'll get the about me page filled out as well.
I will get everything done tomorrow guys.
That sounds MUCH better, you should of done that in the first place! And like puppy said an intro post would help.
