Destructoid? Biased? F*** y'all, then
Brad Rice | 7:40 PM on 08.25.2007 46 comments

Really, I'm starting to get sick of seeing people saying that we're giving games a 10/10 just because they sponsor us. This is especially after reading some of the comments in Orcist's Mass Effect post.

Really, it's sad that some people think that Destructoid would be swayed by money. We don't see any of that money that comes from the banners. That only pays for travel to events and server costs. With BioShock, Aaron paid for his own copy of the game. You would think that 2K would at least send us a copy if we were going to give it a boosted score. I mean, hell, it's not like every other site hasn't.

Pulling out the GoW: Betrayal banner as a punch on us? I'm sorry, but that's paying for a PS3 for us to FUCKING GIVE TO YOU! We as writers don't give two shits who puts ads on our site. I don't care if Ubisoft sponsored us with Horsez 2. We'd still give it a shit review. I mean, c'mon, we're not IGN.

The Burn Sauce permeating out of this post unclogged my nostrils and killed my fish.

Don't worry, Lemon. I'm totally not a pedophile. I just...can't come within 100 yards of you. Until you turn 18, of course.

Don't worry, totally unrelated.

I think Nick did get a copy of the game from 2K. Aaron bought it himself because by the time he would have got the game, it would have been well after the game had come out and he wanted his review up before it launched.

Other than that, couldn't agree more with you DMV.

Swayed by money? HA! Nobody I know is here for the money. We are here because we believe in Destructoid and the community.

We'd all do this shit for free. OK, I would at least ;-)

...wait, wait, wait... where did this sudden outrage towards D'toid bias come from? I've never heard such allegations.

Dick talking about not being able to come near Lemon is sorta kinky.

Dtoid gives scores?

I'm not saying that you guys are swayed by money but I have confessions from 5 different robot prostitutes that they have been paid by 2K games to service Nieros piston.

Well the people who actully use the site and are the regulars know that Dtoid arent such ass holes. Fuck if you listen to potoid 30 it explains all this shit.

But people would rather cause E-drama and be dicks about it.

Oh yeah, Nick did get a copy, but hell, that didn't come until Aaron did his review. So I mean, technically they did, but that was set up a hell of a long time ago.

I wouldn't think too much of it. It was probably just because this one 'negative' post was at the top of the page for a long time. So people who would've normally thought "ah well" and went onwards would now take the time to actually post something.
If you look at the amount of posts from avatar-less people who just didn't read anything and posted... well that pretty much says enough :)

Geez someone got testy! Responding to that criticizm only makes D'Tiod look worse. Of course that horribly innacurate writeup about Mass Effect doesn't help either.

Wow you really make yourself look dumb by trying to trash other websites... I do not usually come to this site but it will probably stay that way because of your comments. If you are going to write about anything you need to learn to take critism...

Just a note to all the people who are saying shit about Dtoid being biased:

I'd be less worried about the review scores, and more worried about The Robot fucking your collective mothers.

Yes. All of them.

That is all.

Sick. Everyone knows that Destructoid's main problem is a lack of Delicious McGriddle's breakfasts.

@ MaximusPaynicus:

Some people were whining that Bioshock got an awesome review from Dtoid after the site ran ads for it... Umm, welcome to the same thing every other gaming site and publication does.

Dick, the problem is, these people don't believe what they're saying. They lash out because they feel personally wounded by what we say about whatever it is they hold dear. I get called a fanboy for daring to write bad news about the PS3, Orcist gets accused of wanting a kickback for being honest with Mass Effect. The petty-minded among us read something they don't like and attack blindly like a cornered fox, desperately hoping that will re-validate them.

Too many people take personal offense to bad things said about things they like because they attach their own identity to it. I mean fuck, if I got pissy every time someone trashed Dynasty Warriors, I'd be a very pissy person indeed. Some people need to find some real purpose to their lives instead of relying on videogames.

Destructoid is not biased -- that's your own bias betraying itself when you say that.

Ok, not to be devils advocate, but Jim set this up perfectly.

"Too many people take personal offense to bad things said about things"

You mean like this very blog entry?

Sorry had to do it, no hard feelings!

Yeah, normally I don't take Internet criticism to heart, but hell, it's not just me they're attacking -- they're attacking all the work that we've put into the site. It just gets a bit much.

And I trashed another website? IGN was notorious on giving games above-average ratings, helping that whole "bell-curve of ratings" view that we commonly know about. They've gotten better, but are still not clear of that in my eyes.

Taran:

Difference is mate, we WORK for Destructoid, so we have a right to take it personally. WE are the ones being criticized. These Bioware obsessives are taking personal criticism for something they have nothing to do with. They appear emotionally invested in a videogame that's not even released yet.

That's the important crux.

I take solace in the fact that despite the BioWare fanboys, the great majority of the Destructoid commenters took this with a grain of salt, and just chalked it up to "This is his personal opinion." That's the best thing I could hope for from people who disagree. No flamewar, just a disagreement.

That's why I'm so nice to people who tell me they disagree with me, tell me WHY they disagree with me, and actually have a sensible debate. I'm almost damn grateful to be able to DISCUSS something with an opposition rather than be simply insulted.

I knew ppl would call bias on the Bioshock review, they do the same on Penny-Arcade whenever they talk good about a game that sponsors their site.

Anyway, like some have already said, don't make too much of it, ppl will always bitch about something

I couldn't possibly think of anything less true then D-toid being biased by anything. Way to many community members keeping them true and giving another opinion on every single post. The blatant fact that community members comments, which often disagree, are so easyily accesible and clear should defend any argument that a bias could exist. If any of the editors was unfair they would be and have been instantly slammed.

Meh, it shows who the real Dtoid and overall sophisticated community are. It's easy to start the flame wars, and it's a little odd to see the attention brought to them. It's ok, making fanboys angry is fun.

More stupid comments, since when did Destructoid even become a viable preview gaming website or a viable gaming website to begin with, its just a blog, a stupid blog trying hard to compete with Kotaku, and failing

I think to compete they'd need to have at least a LITTLE relevant content.

They don't.

Wait, so are people just creating accounts now so that they can create flamewars in the comments section? That's damn well what it looks like. What a waste of time and energy. Go back to your favorite gaming website if you don't like Destructoid and get over yourselves. STFUAJPG.
