Man, that’s a lot of acronyms.
Last night, as you all know, was the 20th Friday Night Fights. Snaileb did a good job letting everyone know what the deal was in Grim’s absence. However — and this is not anyone’s fault in particular — I feel as if the PS3 always gets shafted (and not just in terms of multiplatform games). I mean, last night, I ended up just playing CoD 4 with strangers on the PSN. I had said in the comments for the FNF posts that I would’ve been willing to host for CoD 4 or Rock Band, and though I was able to get in a few minutes of the latter game with PKN, everyone was either playing something else or missing altogether. Hell, no one even seemed to be on for Warhawk — I mean, I know a lot of PS3-owning Dtoiders don’t have the games I mentioned, but even the usual Warhawk gang was conspicuously absent, so the whole night was kind of a washout:
I was thinking of going with an “EPIC FAIL” image here, but I thought this was slightly more original Of course, I understand that people will be busy on Friday nights a lot of the time, and that’s fine; I guess this week was just hit particularly hard in that respect. But it still seems like the 360 Dtoiders are given most of the attention in FNF posts, while PS3 users are sort of left to fend for themselves. Again, I don’t want to specifically blame anyone, and I don’t think it’s even possible. That’s mostly due to many more Dtoiders owning 360s, obviously. I mean, we’re doing alright, what with Wednesday Night Warcawks and all, but I’d like to see more focus on the PS3 side of things. Granted, Sony’s not making it any easier. It sucks that the PS3 still doesn’t have in-game XMB access — I hate having to quit out of a game just to use the messaging system. Then, of course, it’s just annoying with the varying levels of XMB integration within games. Warhawk may not have a party system, but at least it uses the XMB friends list to allow you to see who else is playing the game at the moment. Call of Duty 4 does do the party thing, and its use of the XMB list is fantastic: when you hit ‘Party Invite’, the game only shows you your friends that are currently online playing the game; when you invite someone, they get an immediate notice of the invite that pops up the next time they’re in a game lobby. The integration in Rock Band, on the other hand, isn’t exactly ideal. You can do party invites, but nothing pops up; the person you invite has to quit out to the game’s main menu, go to “Community”, and then specifically check for party invites. Sound stupid? That’s because it kinda is. I just wish that games would use some sort of unified system — why can’t the XMB friends list be a universal list that every game uses? Taking all of that into consideration, I was wondering if you guys would be in favor of splitting up the FNF list. This seems logical to me for a number of reasons. First of all, the FNF posts have become huge, unwieldy, and a bit long to scroll through in my opinion (kinda like my own blog posts). Secondly, the way that most FNF posts turn out is that 90% of the comments are made regarding 360 or PC games, and the comments of people who want to play on the PS3 are lost in the commotion. Finally, the PS3’s community capabilities just aren’t as good as those on the 360. You know it, I know it, and Microsoft knows it, but Sony continues to be blissfully ignorant of it. So let’s give it a little help, shall we? It appears that most of the action takes place on the PS3, 360, and PC — so perhaps we could have one post for each of those, and a fourth one with “everything else”. Or not...with this post, I’m trying to gauge people’s opinions. I know this may seem as if I’m trying to stir things up in a bad way, but it’s all done with the end goal of more Friday night gaming with more Dtoiders. I suppose that if I have to, I’m offering to take up the weekly PS3-centric FNF post, though I’m getting it out of the way now: I may not be able to do it every week, so I’d occasionally have to pawn it off on somebody else. But yeah...what do you guys think?

on the brightside, you will have a rumble feature in a few months...
ohh buuurn!
If Jeter was on that list reality as wew know it would have come to an end...
Have you played the new R&C? That has tempted me to buckle and get one...but R&C along with Uncharted really are the only games I really would dig playing.
God, that was longer than I intended.
those seem to be some pretty huge flaws...maybe it is because I have been using XBL for 5+ years and I take some of the things for granted...I dunno. But that sort of lacking of features is pretty serious stuff.
Resistance: Fall of Man
Warhawk
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Rock Band
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
The only game that I’ve beaten is CoD 4. So it’s not like I’m suffering from a lack of games, you know what I mean? Plus, I’m planning on getting The Orange Box eventually. Also, Everyday Shooter is amazing. And to be honest, I’m not really interested in most of the stuff that’s 360-exclusive. I’m not a Halo fan — partly because I suck at it — and I’m not an RPG guy, so Mass Effect never piqued my interest. My brother has Gears of War, and I beat that game before he did when he was home last winter break. It would be nice to have a version of Madden that wasn’t awfully gimped, though...
From the videos I have seen of the 360/PS3 Orange Box comparisons are kind of scary...the loading times are pretty long on the PS3...and the gameplay stuff looked like it was running at a lower framerat. I have TOB for the 360 and it is def worth getting...Portal fucking rocks, TF2 is awesome and HL2...I mean...Its Half Life 2, nuff said.
what about the friendslist questions and the messages?
Most games have voice chat (same as the 360 — not every game supports voice), but Guitar Hero III is a strange example: the back of the box says it’s voice-enabled, but the game actually isn’t. Frankly, I like the PS3’s system better than the 360’s, because you can use almost any Bluetooth headset with the PS3, whereas you have to buy the $60 wireless headset for the 360 (yeah, I know that the wired one comes in the box, but I say “meh” to wires).
Still, though, I’m very happy with my PS3 and the PSN. Obviously, the start-up cost was high, but the PSN is free, and once it improves a bit, people are going to start wondering what they’re paying for with Live.
With the 360, I'm always getting alerts as to when friends are online, messages, whatever. Steam does an awesome job of this too. Unfortunately the PS3 drops the ball.
Until ALL games get that 360 seamlessness ( with a pinch of Burnout:Paradise's online implementation, 'cause it rocks), the PS3 is gonna be third fiddle in my FNF plans.
PC > 360 > PS3 and forget about the Wii, what a joke it's online is.
My PSN: k0wb0y-b33b0p
Anybody can drop me a friend request and we'll roll.
Oh and Ocified-Xboxer you funny. Stop trolling the PS3 blogs with your coy Xbox360 propaganda shit. I own an xbox360 too (XBL: jub3i) but for the love of god stop it already. Half of the comments on Bronx's blog are of you saying better 360 this , why didn't they do this like xbox360. I thought this was for a better set up for those that want to roll with their PS3's on FNF.
I wasn't trying to troll, and that really wasn't my point. The rumble crack was ribbing. But what I said prior to that was my opinion, or rather maybe 1 reason for it. It is really that simple. I don't hate the PS3...But I do feel like people who only have a PS3 are getting kind of shafted.
I know that I'll end up getting one at some point next year. I have no "brand loyalty" but I do have an opinion. I'm sorry that you take offense to it though.
If this was Sonys first attempt at online gaming I would agree. But the fact that they tout the PS3 as the culmination of Next Gen and that the PSN is on par with XBL takes away from giving them time. It has been a year, and there is some basic functionality it is still missing. How can you have no voice chat in some games? How can you not have a system for players to communicate during games? That is the stuff that gives me pause with the PS3. When XBL launched it was no where near what it is now...But Sony had a long time when they were planning the PS3 and the PSN. For some of the stuff it lacks or they omitted at this point is BS.
Oh yeah, I was in Rockaway all weekend with some friends, but if I wasn't there I wouldnt have been able to make it anyway becausethen i would have gone to a swim meet.

I've just been busy most Friday's lately. If you want to play any game just pick a night and make a c blog. UT3 is pretty popular at the moment, and I bet you'd get some folks to play.
On top of that, I've got some single player games to get through. Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank need me to finish them. That and Super Luigi Galaxy.
I feel your pain though Bronx. I've felt the same 360 love: PS3 shafting on FNF for about 4 months now. I also think in game XMB and other such improvements to PSN will make this whole situation easier. That and an enlarged userbase.
Sorry about this week Bronx. I know the next two weeks I'll be out for FNF and WNW. I'll be at my parents and my PS3 isn't making the trip. :(
Still I'd be up for a game of R:FoM, Calling All Cars and hopefully soon I'll have UT3.
And should I get Warhawk? As I don't know much about the gameI'm not sure I wanna shell out the monies
@bhive01: Unfortunately, I don’t have UT3, and I don’t plan on getting it. Uncharted is my Christmas present, and if I come into any money sometime soon, I’ll be picking up The Orange Box. But I guess that’s a better idea, and I didn’t even think of that (picking a day and making c-blogs, that is). I’ve decided to bring my PS3 home for the month-long winter break, but I haven’t seen my friends from home since Thanksgiving, and I expect to be busy on Fridays as well, at least until 2008 rolls around. I agree with the single-player games, too...I’m only on the third planet in Ratchet & Clank, and while I bought Uncharted on Monday, I haven’t even put it into my PS3 yet because I’ve been playing Warhawk, CoD 4, and Rock Band. (Speaking of those latter two games, I’m hoping to play them with some Dtoiders, but nobody else seems to have them, or if anything, they have them on 360...*sigh*)
It's that whole userbase thing. They have a lot more people than we do so it makes finding a person with the game that you have and the same free time as you really difficult. I expect that this coming year there will be a lot more people with PS3's and if there are PS3 exclusive online titles out there then this won't happen so much. At least that's how I see it.
As far as games that I have:
Resistance
Motorstorm
Warhawk
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted
I don't think I'll be picking up CoD4 or UT3. The next buy for me will likely be R&C and then most likely Haze.
@Ocified-Xboxer: Yeah, you weren’t nearly as bad as half of the trolls I often see (or “Xbots”, as some like to call them). I’m glad we could have some legitimate discourse on the merits of our respective consoles, instead of fanboyism. As far as I’m concerned, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion — and that’s the way it should be.
