The defining moment of my life so far

Hey everybody, I'm Samit Sarkar, and I'm a 23-year-old lifelong gamer from New York (short answer). What's the long answer, you ask? Well, I'm from a bunch of places, actually: I was born in Calcutta, India, and I moved to the States when I was ten months old. I've lived in New York ever since (Queens until I was eight, and Long Island since then). So I figure that 20+ years of living in and around New York City is enough for me to be able to call myself a New Yorker.

I officially became a Destructoid editor in February 2008, but I've been an avid reader of the site since November 2006 (you may know me from my old nom de guerre, "BrOnXbOmBr21"). On the staff, I'm the lone editor who covers sports games, but you may see me do other things from time to time. I've been into video games for as long as I can remember. In 1990, when I was four, my parents got me an NES, and I've been hooked ever since. I often tell people that I'll play video games until the day I die, and I truly believe that. So here's my gaming history (date in parentheses is when I got the console):

As you can see, I'm a big fan of sports games, action games, shooters, and platformers. Some of my favorite games/series, in case you don't feel like going through my entire collection, are: God of War, Grand Theft Auto, Guitar Hero, Madden, and Prince of Persia. Also, though I've never played any prior games in the series at length, I plan to get into the Metal Gear Solid series in this generation.

Finally, I really think that Destructoid is the greatest place on the internet for video game-related news and things like that -- that's why I spend an inordinate amount of time on the site. It provides a unique combination of resources: news, humor, a phenomenal community, humor, a tremendous amount of knowledge pertaining to video games, and finally, humor. Also, cocks.

Oh, one more thing: I'm what people like to call a 'grammarian', and in my case, that also includes spelling. So nothing you see here, in my c-blog, or in my front page posts, should have any such errors (except for internet memes and the like, such as 'I can has c-blog?', etc.) Let me know if you spot a mistake. Also, I generally correct other people's mistakes, and since it's hard to correct someone without coming off as a dick, please don't take offense if I do it to you. It's only constructive criticism, and even if I'm brusque, I mean well.

As many of you know, I’m the happy owner of a PS3, and I have many games for it. But I’ve never been into handheld gaming; when I was young, my parents would only let my brother and me have one console at a time (per generation, that is), and now, I just don’t have the time or money to put into more than one gaming system — and that includes handhelds. I’ve been a PlayStation Underground member since the beginning of 1998, after I sent in the postcard that was in the box of my PlayStation (which I got for Christmas in 1997). They send me various promotional materials from time to time, such as game demos and advertising brochures for certain games, and sometimes, those brochures include coupons (yay!). Usually, though, the coupons are for PSP games, and since I don’t have a PSP, they’re of no use to me. I recently received a Holiday 2007 booklet from Sony, which basically amounts to a 28-page advertisement for the PSP and its games. There’s one page in the entire thing that’s dedicated to the PS3, but it just features a short blurb about the connectivity between the two systems. Anyway, here’s the meat of the contest: the booklet includes a coupon that’s good for $5 off of any PSP game purchased at Best Buy. Here’s a picture below, just to preclude any “pics or it didn’t happen” comments: The coupon does feature the phrase “some holiday cheer for you,” but it’s valid through January 31, 2008. While God of War: Chains of Olympus won’t be out by then, I’m sure you PSP owners will be able to find some reason to head on over to your local Best Buy and make use of this discount offer. Ah, yes: the terms of the contest. Well, since I only want to give this coupon to someone who actually has a PSP, I’m going to structure my contest very similarly (okay, identically) to the Velocity Micro PC giveaway that Destructoid is currently running. So in case you haven’t figured it out already, I want a picture of you with your PSP and Destructoid’s homepage displayed on it. As always, the picture that makes me LOL the most will win. I was originally planning on mailing the entire booklet to the winner, but I’m a poor college student, and all I can spare is forty-one cents for regular old first-class mail in an envelope, so you’ll just be getting the coupon after I rip it out of the booklet. Oh, stop whining already; this shouldn’t take that much effort. Good luck to all of you! The deadline for entries will be next Saturday at 12 AM (midnight) EST — in other words, Friday night.
