This is a matter of cultural references meeting cultural references, while being something you can reference within a culture.
VGcats goofing on Colbert, goofing on hot topics + Hot Topic logo drop = Isolation of cultural referance gene with mutagenic properties rendered into a precipitate, and snorted.
I know consumers and I know gamers.
Consumers buy shit to have shit. They have stacks of games they don't play, movies they don't watch, and rooms full of trash.
Gamers have games they like, talk about games, anticipate the release of new games, and play and talk about them fervently. Some consumers pretend to be gamers. They act as though just because they've purchased something and taken a glance at it that they have in turn experienced it, and are thus given license to talk about it like they're knee deep in the soul wax.

You're telling me gamers don't have stacks of games they don't play?
You must not have Steam.
Gaming isn't some exclusive club; it's a fucking activity. People do it, not gamers; human fucking beings. Some people play games, some people obsess over them, some are in between. That does not make anyone better or worse.
And if it turns out that gaming is some sort of club, I'd like to be banned, because this is honestly the worst club you could be a part of. The. FUCKING. Worst.
You sick fucks don't even have cookies.
Also, that VGCats is a blatant parody. Some gamers are just block-headed asstards who couldn't describe fun if it looked like a square.

Comedy is about brevity, and when it isn't about brevity it has to really push the envelope the entire time, so in essence it's still about brevity within the interval humor and not. I guess what I am trying to get at here is that a lot of words were both used in that comic and this blog that didn't hold a comedic pace to my liking. Of course, this may not be about comedy or even entertainment to you, and is likely about some vague sociological phenomena that are dryly mused about a whisper's breath by some jackass on NPR. That's all fine and dandy, but look at this.
