Following is a breakdown of the CoD Zombie Mode for those who don't know, if you do, skip the next paragraph.
The CoD:WaW Zombie Mode is unlocked after beating the story mode. Online, as long as the host has it unlocked, he can invite his buddies who don't to play. Basically you are defending a house vs unlimited waves of zombie attacks. First they come in small numbers, low health, and move slow. As the waves go by they get faster, stronger, and more of them. As far as any gamer knows there is no end to it. You gain points for killing zombies and rebuilding barricades, and points can be used to purchase new weapons/ammo. Parts of the house can be unlocked with points, which give you easier/different places to defend, along with giving you access to more weapons to purchase.
@MRSADISTIC - Have to disagree, most players on Xbox Live don't even know about it. The majority of people I have played with had never heard of it until I invited them to play it with me.
I believe that L4D will have longer replay value, of course as it is a fully developed game, but the competitions i've had with my buddies, seeing who can get to the highest level has really given Nazi Zombies a lot of replay value.
Anyone gotten past level 18 on Nazi Zombies?
Yeah, I'd say L4D.
Nazi Zombies requires more team coordination and tactics IMO. L4D in any mode is just feels like a linear shooter. While the VS mode is a semi-interesting twist (though not original in concept), it just doesn't have that visceral feel that Nazi Zombies has. I also never get the sense that I'm ever going to be punished if I (or a teammate) make a mistake in L4D. For the record however, we have not played L4D at Expert for any length of time.
With a core group of guys, we've managed to get to level 23 in Nazi Zombies.
No punishment for a mistake? Have you "accidentally" gotten too close to a witch? Have you accidentally trigger the car alarm? Have you selfishly not given a teammate a health pack only to see them soon die?
I have to say L4D > COD...
(( I have only played COD Nazi Mode ))
I'm drooling at the video clips of L4D. The fully fleshed out experience. BUT w/ Treyarch announcing DLC for COD5... They could give L4D a much tougher run for the Money...
I like to move around a little more than COD5 Nazi Mode allows you to. Seriously L4D, is a reason for me to contemplate a 360 purchase!
Are you serious? You'll never be punished for making a mistake?
L4D is all about team work. If you try and wander off on your own your ass is toast. Making a stupid mistake like firing at a Boomer point blank or harassing a witch will hurt your team's probability of surviving.
I'm with BSD. Either you've never played the game, or you're playing on normal (which you shouldn't be playing on if you're an FPS vet.)
The level of polish in L4D that was had so that teams actually have to work together is far beyond the work that went into this bonus game. I don't even understand how this is a question.
@NotAZombie
Um, every movie that you play in L4D has places where you hold off and coordinate for waves of large horde attacks. Even the demo had one of these "hold off" points.
Dude, you ALWAYS get punished for mistakes, in L4D. That is, if you're playing it on Advanced or Expert. There's no real point to playing it on Easy or Normal. Shit's too easy. That game is harsh on the careless.
Also, it's "prefer," not "perfer."
I view mistakes as something that isn't common sense (like the boomer, witch, etc). In L4D, you can bail yourself out of a mistake without much penalty to the overall game. In Nazi Zombies, one zombie getting through during an ill-timed reload is pretty much game over once you hit the higher levels.
I also think there's much more at stake when playing Nazi Zombies because you can't just start from a "scene" like in L4D if you wipe. If someone screws up on lvl 20, that's almost a couple of hours of gametime you lose permanently.
All of this said...L4D isn't "fun" for the crew that I play with due to the linearity so it's going to shelved shortly. For the record, I've finished act 1 on expert solo (the rest on normal) and I have no desire to complete the rest. I find the game just too run n' gun and bland for my tastes at this point to continue.
@Vexed
In your rush to post a response to NotAZombie you misunderstood. He is wanting a Nazi Zombie / GOW2 Horde like mode in L4D where it throws wave after wave of the L4D variety of zombies at the player. Not the scripted AI Director choke point "waves" that periodically get thrown at you.
Your not playing the game correctly. Hence why your not enjoying it. And about there being a mode like the CoD5 Zombie level, if you own the pc version of l4d you can expect a mod that more than likely will mimic if not outright copy the CoD5 zombie level.
As for the question, haven't played either yet, so can't say. But I'd imagine L4D is superior based on developer alone.
As a zombie game, L4D excels. The CoD game seems like less of a zombie challenge and more like the modern equivalent of Space Invaders (gradually increasing speed and power of enemies while character stays within a specific area). They are simply different types of games.
Conceptually, it's definitely present in the game. Hit X on some object and defend yourself from the horde. No, not as long as you can, and there's no specific mode for this (although I'm sure PC users will have one shortly), but there are instances were you do hole up in some room. Also, the last stage of each of the films has like a 10-15 minute holdout sequence. To be completely honest, this feels like a perfect amount of time for such a scenario. Anything less and it feels run-and-gun, anything more and you've got Space Invaders (Nintendoll's comment).
Also, I haven't played CoD5 and I honestly don't intend to. So I won't vote!
