Wii Getting a Harddrive?

Say wha? What is this nonsense? Well last week I posted a blog saying that Nintendo was going to reveal Mario Kart Wii release date or something like that and perhaps "hardware" news at E3.

Well with the news of the Wii to receive NeoGeo titles on the virtual console(look at the pic of the consoles, bottom left), Matt from IGN on the podcast talked about how large NeoGeo games and sort of hinted that Nintendo had a solution. Could that solution be they will use one of the USB ports on the back to plug into an External Harddrive?

We all knew it was coming, it was only a matter of time! Now the only question is, will you be able to use ANY harddrive or will Nintendo have some sort of "lock" or code embedded in the new harddrive to work, preventing anyone from using a random one.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I think Matt was a little off on the NeoGeo rom size. I *cough*downloaded*cough* quite a few of them back in the day, and most were around 25 - 35 megs IIRC. That will still fill up that 512 megs quickly though. What Nintendo really needs to figure out is how to let developers run off the SD cards, I'd rather them go that route personally.

Mxyzptlk, would they ahve to tell developers? Couldn't that just be a Wii update, correct?

official Nintendo hard drive for the Wii? NEVER. i am saying that right now.

If they are announcing hardware and Mario Kart, i can see a camera coming. I could see something like the arcade Mario Kart GP with camera kind of thing on the Wii. Other than that i don't know what they would announce. Unless they consider some new attachment hardware.

A mic for voice chat would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath since that would instantly lead to the kiddies getting abducted by pedos.

And Blindside, if 1up podcasts do not lie Nintendo kinda overlooked the whole SD card access thing in the Wii design, and developers have since been asking them for a solution. I'm hoping it's something they can just fix with a simple firmware update, but it could be more complicated than that. We'll see.

And I REALLY want some way to reorganize my damn address book.

A hard drive wouldn't be anything too great, it would simply be more space to store music and songs. For that, I would rather it just be able to see my computer and play directly from there like my 360.

The reason why a hard drive wouldn't be anything too spectacular is because not every Wii owner would buy the hard drive and developers wouldn't be able to (in their right mind at least) take advantage of the hard drive. I mean I guess they could give people the option of saving to a hard drive, but woohoo.

Finally my chance to say something good about the Wii, that would be a great idea if true, Im all for memory cards/sticks but theres nothing (right now) that can beat the speed and comfort of a HDD.

Yeah I Know the HDD price is a sting, but once you notice is the equivalent of 10-20 memory/sticks you probably wont remember

Also maybe you could download FREE demos of Wii games instead of popping $5 for playing 20 year old ones! that SUC.!

Ok.. I promised, I promised, no more Wii bashing, calm, relax... breathe..

Now back to forza 2

Damn, those must have been the later ones then, I only bothered with the very early games. :) Compression probably factored in too, making them a bit smaller. Did some googling and found a site that lists games with the rom sizes for each. I'd be all about some League Bowling, Windjammers, and Samurai Showdown.
