Smash Update: They did it again...
BlindsideDork | 6:38 AM on 11.26.2007 16 comments

What exactly is it? Well another EXCITING update for everyone to come gather around. It really is something to behold. /sarcasm. To miss this would be to deny yourself air to breathe and water to drink. Can you live without them?

Yeah another eh update! this time...

Controls

Really? Oh well, at least they give control diagrams.

Look you can assign controls to a named profile so you don't have to switch it everytime you play,

And the 4 controllers to rule all of them with.

GameCube Controller

Wiimote

Classic Controller

Wiimote & Nunchuck

I think it is save to say that they want you to play with the GC or CC the most. But as they pointed out...Shake Smash? Basically you shake the Nunchuck in the directio you want to Smash and it does it. So shake left for left Smash. Maybe they want you to try out the Nunchuck controls. Sucks to be the lonely Wiimote!

You can also turn off the "Up = jump" control which is probably nice for some.

There is even a little demo area where you can try everything out.

Lastly, this is probably why you are suppose to have an attachment to your Wiimote. You can save your control settings to your Wiimote! Press "+" on the Wiimote to open the menu on the name list and then press "1" & "2" and voila, name and control settings saved to the Wiimote. Although it sucks if you play with the GameCube controller.

Then transfer it to your friend's place. They don't tell you how to do that but I assume it is along the same methods or in the options menu of sorts.

Of course they get a little cocky at the end saying they thought of everything. Have this game COME with or get Nintendo to release a mic and you WILL have thought of everything and I will give you much buttsecks!

Nice that you can download your controls into your wiimote but I agree, that is hardly thinking of everything.

I really wish they would anounce a stage or character for once. This is getting really fucking annoying.

I'm just happy you can turn "tap jump" off. Since I don't use the control stick to jump, (does anyone?) it is great I can prevent myself from accidentally jumping instead of doing my character's Up-B move.

Sadly, if you use the GC controller you would likely still need to lug around a Wii Remote to carry your name/control settings over to a friends house. The default GC controls are exactly what was in Melee, though, so GC controller users should just make a profile on their friends system.

Also, I want a mic too...but it ain't gonna happen, what with friend codes and all...

Classic Controller ftw. My GC controllers are all too worn out :(

Finding new gamecube controllers is going to be a bitch. My cat tore up my previous GC controllers so that the joysticks don't work anymore. I guess I could buy classic controllers but I was really comfortable with the GC control scheme.

actually gamecube controllers are still everywhere. You can get some really good deals on them on eBay.com as well.

Yeah, there's no way to transfer your names and settings with the Gamecube controller. I mean, there might be a way to do it with the wiimote, but then you're carrying an additional thing everywhere you go for no good reason.
