New videos and trailers, man this game is being plastered everywhere. I think I know why though. This is perhaps Rare's last chance at "redemption" and honestly They are going to need it.
I guess I should preface this with the fact that I have never touched a Banjo game ever. Never once. Not cause of hate but just cause, never tried it. So when I watched the HD trailer, I had zero expectations. The first thing I noticed is the beauty. The massive world was so pretty, it was nice. Then I thought, what do you do in the game?
Seriously, what is going on? As far as I can tell, you run around a big open world (one of five) and pick up pieces to add to your vehicle (which represents 80% of the game) and adapt it to drive/fly around the map. It looks pretty but the gameplay doesn't have me sold one bit. Seems deep and shallow at the same time, if that makes any sense. And then when I saw the latest video and some of the things they said on the game made me chuckle.
Did he just say they got tired of making Banjo games? They made an HD Banjo game and didn't like it because it was "tedious." So they made a game with this idea instead. But if you thought that was bad, I think I laughed pretty hard when they said "we don't want to waste the franchise" at the end there. Waste the franchise? It could be just me but it sounds like they made a Banjo game but didn't like it and made this other vehicle game instead. But given their recent track record, they knew it wouldn't sell so they threw in their old Banjo characters and changed a few small things to make it meld. Well they aren't "wasting" the franchise, they are using it.
It's probably just me. I mean every platformer sooner or later turns into a free-roaming racer. To be fair, both version involve collecting...but that is all I am giving it.
He has his eyes closed for like 70% of the interview. Kinda reminds me of when Kyle's dad got the hybrid car in South Park - so very smug.
I don't understand their logic here - they're sliding into decline, their fans think they don't have it in them to make good games anymore, and instead of making a REAL sequel to a game everyone loved, they decided to screw with it and make some car racing game.
@boylie - So using springs and contraptions on vehicles to overcome new obstacles means it's a racing game? Okay. I must have been playing those genres alllllll wrong.
Looks like a platforming game with limitless amount of tools to overcome the new, unique obstacles to me. But what do I know, I still can't figure out how that means it's a racing game.
Actually, FuriousGeorge, most of the "banjoo kazooei" (Banjo-Kazooie) team still works at Rare and are working on this game.
And I wish they'd stop saying they care about the fans of the old games. If they really did, this would still be a platformer, not a Lego, Gummi Ship contaption building puzzle solver/racer. They fucked the fans over.
yikes. I said it before, but I feel it should be said again- This is the perfect example of a company creating a game and slapping an existing franchise on it in order to push sales. It doesn't need to be in that order, but when a game is so different from it's origin why not atleast subtitle it? To call this the third in the series is a tad misleading to gamers, and ultimately disappointing. The Banjo franchise is for Banjo fans- this game will not appeal to that market and will most likely infuriate them. Why not call it what it is and get a new market excited. Idiots.
I mean. I'm all for vehicles in platformers and whathaveyou, but EIGHTYPERCENT?! thats...What is that? What do we call that? vehicular adventure?
Ok, so take where I said "racing" and swap it with "a platforming game with limitless amount of tools to overcome the new, unique obstacles". Feel better?
My point is that Banjo-Kazooie fans wanted another platforming game. What we're getting instead is some "platforming game with limitless amount of tools to overcome the new, unique obstacles" game that is, by their own admission, 20% platforming and 80% playing around with vehicles. If you're excited for that, then that's awesome, and I hope you pick it up and enjoy it. Me however, I was looking forward to more along the lines of 100% platforming fun.

I will not be buying this game.
I can't believe they would take something so good and turn it completely around into another direction.
