And I can't tell if you're joking, Arttemis.
TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Come to think of it, I could love this movie if it's a shot for shot, line for line remake of the original film.
At the very least, they need to keep the gym teacher scene fully intact.
Just make an entire film out of the scene from the beginning, where Akira destroys Tokyo with the black mushroom cloud thingy. I'd watch that for an hour and a half.
Shinichiro (?) Watanabee is my favorite anime director. cowboy beebop is my love.
I'd watch it.
But yes... this video probably isnt far off, which is sad.
Are you joking? Please say you are. Akira was an anime based off a manga that just so happens to be titled Akira. It has nothing to do with Kurosawa whatsoever.
And Seven Samurai is way better than the Sanjuro movies. It's the greatest movie ever put to film. Much broader in scope and philosophy. The others were (completely amazing) action films. Beyond awesome, but nowhere near Seven Samurai.
Dragonball Evolution sure does look like a riot!
Ran is boring as hell.
I enjoyed High and Low and Stray Dog a lot more than Ran. Ran is as popular as it is because of the source material and because it's Kurosawa. Ikiru was also excellent.
I've probably seen a little over half his films and the samurai pictures are a mixed bag. The less they have to do with Shakespeare, the more I tend to like them.
Also worth seeing: Rashomon, The Hidden Fortress, and Sanshiro Sugata.
If you want a interesting retelling of Sanjuro, a second director remade the same film in a more comedic fashion. It's called Kiru! and is also quite good.
Dragon Ball with Twilight Twinks?
Oh wait...
Awesome video :P
I never was able to get into High and Low. I gotta rank Ran much higher. H$L seemed more like watching cops explain what they were going to do for 20 minutes before they actually did it. Not too exciting in my opinion. For years, though, I've been meaning to read Ed McBain's King's Ransom and then watch it again.
...Wat?
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN!
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!
DISCIPLINE! *punch!*
DISCIPLINE! *bam!!*
DISCIPLINE! *smack!*
DIIIIIIISMISSED!!
I do have to say that I absolutely respect the one-man-collaboration of Kurosawa in terms of storytelling, editing, directing, and perfecting The Seven Samurai.
However, its length and depth are the barriers that prevent me from choosing it as a spur-of-the-moment movie to watch on any random evening, so it's saved for special occasions.
These live action adaptions of anime are chosing the wrong material sometimes. While Akira should prove interesting I'll hold my breathe on it.
The Cowboy Bebop live action film with Keanu has now been green lighted, and I have to say this has me excited. I expect we won't see it til 2010/11, like Akira or Battle Angel, but they will be interesting, watch this space.
