I finally picked up Chrono Trigger DS this weekend. It is about time, huh? I heard about the first run were getting posters in the packaging and thought I missed it but at the store this weekend they were in great quantities. At my local BestBuy there were shelves of this game, all with the sticker. So of course I had to buy it...for the game and the poster!
But do you think they made lots and lots of copies of this title? I wouldn't think they would make lots of copy of a remake, but it is Chrono Trigger. The only other thing I could think of is the people in my area don't want the game or the game just is not selling well at all. If that is the case, GO BUY A COPY NOW!
For those who don't know, the poster is (just) the front cover. Looks nice and I think I might try to frame mine since I am a loser like that. I should probably frame the original posters from the SuperNES since I still have them. OH SNAP!
Also, why does your Chrono have wierd shaped hair?
Anyway- Your lucky you got the posters. I live in Canada, we didn't get anything. I pre-ordered and didn't get the CD, no poster inside or anything.
When I asked the eb clerk if I got a bonus he was confused and asked if I wanted the Silent Hill Origins soundtrack instead. I took it, but what a disappointment...
Game is still amazing, if you don't own it, go buy it now!
Also, I live in Canada too, and I don't get no free poster with my copy of Chrono Trigger. ;-(
Lucca isn't fugly! She is cute and nerdy...but that type wasn't as popular.
Also, NOT R4
Yep.
No thanks. I've been playing through it on my NOT R4.
What's funny, this is actually a good game and you don't buy it. I can understand if it was some sucky game but when it is an epic, good game and you don't buy it...that is a facepalm. I weep for you.
I fully intended to buy chrono trigger, I have bought several games even after owning my R4.
BUUUUT, Nintendo ONCE AGAIN decided to be massive dicks. Chrono trigger DS has yet to be released here in the UK.
But you did get Mario Strikers before us if that counts for anything...maybe not.
CT is just my favorite RPG of all time and I want lots of people will play it so there can be more baby Chrono games.
Please don't mock ='[
*weeps in a corner*
Yes weep for Square Enix. Your tears are delicious. I mean they're suffering so much while selling an old SNES game for $40...
Hell the game isn't even that great. Yeah I went there. It's probably better than most for it's time. Overall though it's lost a lot over the years and it doesn't stack up with today's games. Games like Sonic 3 and Super Mario World never lost their charm and still hold up.
RPGs suffer a lot however. Dated mechanics and simple graphics can strip a lot of fun from the game. The only thing that doesn't really show it's age is the story and well... That alone is not a game.
Really it's more of a nostalgia effort for fans. If you didn't play it when it first came out chances are you won't think it's TEH GREATEST RPG EVAR!
That is irrelevant. Football games are terrible in my opinions(eg fifa). Mario strikers is just a kids version of that.
I am sorry but doing stuff in the past to change the future...that is more mechanics than some games that currently come out.
But according to IRON DRAGON, Mega Man 9 was not fun cause its dated mechanics and simple graphics just stripped it of its fun.
Chrono Trigger just suffers from the same thing every RPG back then did. The game is about as deep as equiping a set of armor...
Also OMG it has pre-scripted events that happen when you do things in sections of the game? NO WAY!
I'm not saying it's a terrible game. It's just after so long it's hard to still claim it's the best RPG. Especially seeing as everything is so simple.
I have too many other games I want to play before I get a rerelease of a game I've played many a time already.
That said...haven't looked for it at the store, since my wife bought it for me for Christmas. Mine came with the bonus CD, which was pretty lame. Two songs? Whee. Persona 4 and Eternal Poison came with soundtracks.
I still love you, Chrono Trigger. But, when you are re-released again in 5 or so years, maybe you could be bundled with a full soundtrack.
Are you serious? What video game doesn't have pre-scripted events. If you are complaining about that, you must HATE movies. Every game, whether it be an RPG or not, is pre-scripted. Half Life games are full of it, but they are still amazing, aren't they?
In all seriousness, it's basically a direct SNES port with a few needless additions, cutscenes (see needless additions) and the distinct lack of the "I just paid nothing for this" euphoria, all for 50 bucks including taxes (I'm a canuck) -- so I'm not losing any sleep over pirating it, and in fact I'm probably getting more.
Let me know when Squeenix/Nintendo goes bankrupt and I might reconsider my feelings.
Given that it's a diminished experience with a changed script and added crap that wasn't in what I originally played, I would expect to pay less for this. How much less? Eh, $20 is nice. I don't complain about buying more original and newer IP for $20.
$20 it is.
If Square-Enix decide to screw PAL territories out of another classic game because you didn't buy enough copies, I will fly over there and punch every single one of you in both nuts.
But I've paid more for games that I got fucking bored with way sooner than the time it took me to defeat the dragon tank and high-tail it to the future. And I will keep playing this one long after I complete many other games I own that I won't play ever again (Fable 2, I'm looking at you).
So for me...money well-spent.
