Disaster: Day of Crisis is one of those games that just appear out of no where ready to be released. There isn't much to go on but the site has been updated with some videos of the game being played that shine some light on what type of game it is. It does help explain the game but only so much.
All the previous videos you see the main character doing significant stunts. One scene has him running from a tidal wave, performing CPR, shooting a terrorist, and more. Check out the video...
With the site showing off some more action and gameplay it is true that you do walk around. They have 10 different actions displayed and there could be more. The only question I have is are they integrated well? In other words, is Disaster: Day of Crisis just another mini-game or does it feel like a real game?
It has a more adult approach and look but it looks like it is an interactive movie with mini-games. You start and run to one game, then move to another and then another. Is this how it is going to feel like or will it be balanced and feel like a natural flow from one to the next. At first the fear of it soley being a mini-game scared me. I didn't even know there was free walking in the game. It's nice to see that there is.
Being adult-like (the game, not me, ha) and with these events happening, I can't help but compare it to Indigo Prophecies. Right now the only difference that can be pinpointed is that Indigo gives you options and decisions that are supposed to affect the outcome in the game. Will this be the same case in Disaster? The idea of going through a big disaster zone different ways to tackle new obstacles seems to be a good plan of attack but what is the likelihood?
I am a little scared for this title. I want more games for my Wii and this does look to be more of an adult game which I am in favor for, but I already got games where you use the Wiimote in interesting ways and you can play multiplayer (it's called Raving Rabbids). But I will hold onto some hope for this one. Perhaps this will be Nintendo/Monolith's version of Indigo Prophices which I am not too upset about aslong as there aren't any scenes with random pieces of furniture flying in through the windows.
It's very weird that info is so tight on this game, you'd figure Nintendo would be showing it off as a core appeal game. If it was straight up ass though, it would have gone the way of Project Hammer already.
I think Disaster is suffering from the same things as Sadness (that game where you control conceptual art).
They had tons of great motion ideas in the wake of Wii launch excitement, but thanks to the length of the development process, other games were released that did the same things they were highlighting, making them rethink and reconstruct the game's framework and controls to not suck super monkey balls.
It doesn't sound like they're too excited with the final cut. Sadness. Oh well, LEFT 4 DEAD
Wow. I feel bad for the character in this game. Not only does every conceivable natural disaster happen to him, he also gets attacked by a fucking bear.
I'm afraid that this game was held close to Nintendo's chest because it's like Geist; a first (or second) party Nintendo game that turned out to be so bad, even Nintendo Power gave it a bad score.
Excluding the point in the story where things got all SPOILER at the end and didn't quite match the feel of the beginning of Indigo Prophecy, I'd welcome more quick, cinematic action done like that
Nice post. It seems like one of the better Wii games and I'm willing to give it a shot. If it sucks, I won't be surprised.
Honestly, I'm more excited for I AM ALIVE than this now. With just the 3 seconds at E3, I was pumped for Disaster on Wii. Then years passed. Not sure if I want to buy it anymore, maybe just rent (even if it's good).
I think I am definitely going to give this a rent, though it does look kinda sketchy now I have been wanting to play it for so long so I have to see it for myself.

I'm really excited for this game, so I hope it turns out well.

Geist was great! It had some rough spots but it was a solid title with a sweet innovative multiplayer.
Also, bear!
