I know a lot of people don't like or care for Ctrl-Alt-Delete with comments about the topics as well as length. Well if you call out one, why not call out another? So that's what I am doing...

Penny Arcade may not be the worst perpetrator of this offense but if you are going to lamblast one webcomic for having too much words, why shouldn't another be held to the same princicple?

Eh, regardless webcomics are just a mindless form of entertainment for people at work. I don't particularly care for PA's comics and some of their topics but I still read it in hopes that one day I will laugh really hard. But they are far from the only comic I read and not the first one I go to every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is no perfect webcomic. Some are much/less better than others. Just find (or not find) one that you like and ignore the ones you don't like.

Except for F@NBOYS since they are epic and made of win...

I don't care if webcomics have too many words... I do care, however, if webcomics that are about fun and videogames suddenly have a story arc involving miscarriages, unless it's a FUNNY story arc involving miscarriages. Maybe with a dancing fetus singing "Hello My Baby" in the toilet or something.

In Penny Arcade's latest one, the long explanation is kinda necessary - explaining how the Storm Trooper died in order to heighten the horribleness of it. Just saying "he got force choked... what the fuck" doesn't encompass the over-the-topness of Force Unleashed and is not funny.

CAD, however, their words take the place of their artwork, which is pretty static. Now everyone knows what side I'm on.

While CtrlAltDel can be pretty hit or miss for me, I like the fact that the author is trying to make it something more than just a one-off joke for each comic.

Penny Arcade is equally up and down, though I loved the ridiculous ping pong to save the world set of comics.

Explosm is win.

Blehman and Rockvillian hit the nail on the head. Also, the recent 2 golf comics have long been a "dream" of Tycho and Gabe to do a horrible golf-pun strip, so that might not be apparent. The ping pong 80s movie strips were also something they really wanted to do.

Yup, my problem with B^U is mainly that I don't find it funny at all. There are times I feel the same about pretty much every webcomic, but Ctrl-Alt-Del is a worse offender than most.

You miss the point a bit. CAD is not only wordy but it never delivers a joke, has a horrible and unnecessary plot, every character has the same face and Tim Buckley himself is a douchebag of gigantic proportions. PA on the other hand is just not that funny as a webcomic and even that is not completely true. They are just safe and don't try to be edgy. Also they contribute to community a lot so you just can't be mad at them.

That's the beauty of web comics. You don't have some douchebag syndicate editor telling you to limit your artwork or dialogue so that it will look OK when it gets shrunk down to thumbnail size so they can cram it onto a newspaper page alongside ads that dwarf the comics.

Web comic artists can do their strip whatever the fuck way they want. There is no "wrong" way.
