Last night I was seeing if there was games I wanted in the near future. None really popped up for the PS3 and even less on the Wii. There was a game I hadn't played on the 360 but I can't play it since the
recent RRoD. But for some reason it got me thining about when I first got the 360 a little over a year ago.
It was during some unfortunate circumstance in the middle of the "summer" (us grown-ups don't really have summers like you kids do), but I got it on the weekend to ensure massive playage. It was all new to me despite the fact that I had gotten new systems before. And i never realized howh big that power brick was. But what was the first thing I noticed when I turned the system on? Yep, you guess it...
Yes, my first memory of owning a 360 is RRoD. But it hitch in the system because I used the "unplug-the-power" trick and it worked well. Finally, I could play the new system. I wasn't too impressed with the dashboard so I just jumped into my first game,
Gears of War. Could you think of any other game to start the system off a year ago? My this came my next frustration...
For the life of me, I got confused on this profile thing. The game wouldn't start without creating a profile. And then it didn't seem to want to attach and, well it took a little while before I could get things going. But alas, I did conquer and was well on my way to chainsawing fools.
The first thing I noticed wasn't the graphics, it was how "beefy" the characters were. Actually I was quite unimpressed with them. Not saying they are bad, just I wasn't blown away by them. They were nice in all but I guess I'm not a graphics whore. And although I had played through
Resident Evil 4 five times through before, I still wasn't use to the "A button does everything" sort of deal. But you get use to it, which I am glad I did.
So far this has all been neutral or negative things said about this so-called "fond" memory. Well it was fond for a few reasons. It was a pure experience. I wanted to play this game and I did. I had no distractions, I played this game and I played it hard. With the inability and distractions of gaming online at that point, I was able to beat it one an half times through before getting it online. The first time was on hardcore and the second insane, which was later beat by myself (just seemed easier when I played it by myself than with a friend).
I won't forget the first time snapping the HDD in, plugging in the wireless controller to charge, trying to chainsaw someone the first time I got a Lancer, and realizing how easy it was to do an active reload. It was a good playing time and I had fun. What more can you ask for a game?
Do you remember the first time you played your (or someone else's) Xbox 360?
Ah, memories.
I don't remember exactly what arcade games I got, but I actually played arcade games more than anything besides Halo 2 for the first few months.
@SCSITransfer.. Y'mean Quake 4 has Quake 2 included?!? Damn, I didn't know that! I had rented Quake 4 and was mostly unimpressed with it.. I missed out by not getting Q2!

After that i played Viva Piniata with a friend and it was so colorful and deep that instantly hooked me up. Now I have my own 360 and VP. :P
Upon my reception of my new hd, I popped in Sonic again. I was in heaven doing a speed run through the first stage. My god how beautiful the game truly is, when you just stop and look around. Speaking of exploration, Tomb Raider Legend is a blessing in disguise as well, the jungles, are filled with so many wonderful colors I never noticed before.
At the moment, just moved stuff, so I've been on a slight break from playing any of my games for awhile. When I get a chance, I will definitely fire up my 360 again sometime.
