Last night I was seeing if there was games I wanted in the near future. None really popped up for the PS3 and even less on the Wii. There was a game I hadn't played on the 360 but I can't play it since the
recent RRoD. But for some reason it got me thining about when I first got the 360 a little over a year ago.
It was during some unfortunate circumstance in the middle of the "summer" (us grown-ups don't really have summers like you kids do), but I got it on the weekend to ensure massive playage. It was all new to me despite the fact that I had gotten new systems before. And i never realized howh big that power brick was. But what was the first thing I noticed when I turned the system on? Yep, you guess it...
Yes, my first memory of owning a 360 is RRoD. But it hitch in the system because I used the "unplug-the-power" trick and it worked well. Finally, I could play the new system. I wasn't too impressed with the dashboard so I just jumped into my first game,
Gears of War. Could you think of any other game to start the system off a year ago? My this came my next frustration...
For the life of me, I got confused on this profile thing. The game wouldn't start without creating a profile. And then it didn't seem to want to attach and, well it took a little while before I could get things going. But alas, I did conquer and was well on my way to chainsawing fools.
The first thing I noticed wasn't the graphics, it was how "beefy" the characters were. Actually I was quite unimpressed with them. Not saying they are bad, just I wasn't blown away by them. They were nice in all but I guess I'm not a graphics whore. And although I had played through
Resident Evil 4 five times through before, I still wasn't use to the "A button does everything" sort of deal. But you get use to it, which I am glad I did.
So far this has all been neutral or negative things said about this so-called "fond" memory. Well it was fond for a few reasons. It was a pure experience. I wanted to play this game and I did. I had no distractions, I played this game and I played it hard. With the inability and distractions of gaming online at that point, I was able to beat it one an half times through before getting it online. The first time was on hardcore and the second insane, which was later beat by myself (just seemed easier when I played it by myself than with a friend).
I won't forget the first time snapping the HDD in, plugging in the wireless controller to charge, trying to chainsaw someone the first time I got a Lancer, and realizing how easy it was to do an active reload. It was a good playing time and I had fun. What more can you ask for a game?
Do you remember the first time you played your (or someone else's) Xbox 360?
yup, it was perfect dark 0. didn't expect much of an improvement over the last gen of consoles, but HD did make a huge difference.
My first go was Condemned on my brother's 360. I fell in the love with the game and the 360 controller's ability to turn the system on and off. It was also my first taste of the crap d-pad which is still a pile of crap.
Ah, memories.
Arrived in a box from Butmac. Cracked that sucker open and popped in Halo 3 for the first time. Good times.
My first game was Crackdown. God damn, that game was a ton of fun.
I was at my buddy's house. G.R.A.W. had me at hello. I bought a X-box and a copy of the game the next day.
my first experience was with GOW, when i saw it on my friends 32 inch lcd I was thinking I have to get a 360 and a lcd TV or I will get nothing. So i saved up and thought the fun will never end...only to be grabbed by the fun bags by an RROD.
I was lucky, my first play was on PGR3. The graphics did amaze me even on my SD tv. Didnt play for to long as my were around and I didnt want to be rude. Playing it on the steering wheel was hard at first but worthwhile.
My first game was call of duty 2. Man that was a while back. Are we already on 3 more games into the series now? shit.
My first time was about 6 months ago when I bought it, saved up for an elite and two games. Skate, and Monster Madness, I had Gears coming in the mail through goozex so that had to wait. Skate being first, I didnt stop playing that until about 2 weeks later, when gears came. And I also didnt have online until August so it help me play alot of games.
First Experience was Perfect Dark Zero on my newly opened 360.
First experience was a beautiful Call of Duty 2, and what I thought was a great yet simplified Elder Scrolls game. Good times.
Well, my buddy told me I should check out the 360 and get online with him so what I did was go to target and a play demo of Table Tennis on it. Thats all it took.
Dead Rising was my first. Loved it so much! <3
I bought PDZ at launch even though I didnt have a 360. When I finally got one I immediately went home and put it in and about halfway through that intro song a buddy called me and I had to leave the 360 to go and hang out with some other people...the whole time I was just wondering what the game was like after the intro. Needless to say when I got home the next day I was fucking dissapointed. Then I popped in DOA4 and life was good. Until I got to that fucking boss. Then I wanted to throw the 350 out the window. Ahhh good times.
ok ok....you ready for this? my first was.....Quake 2, the special version that came with quake 4 xD
GOW wasn't the first 360 game I played, but it certainly was the one that made the biggest impression on me. I remember looking at how beautiful it was onscreen and saying "holy shit" over and over again. True story.
Halo something at a friends when I was blazed. Can't really remember seeing anything my contact lenses were all foggy.
I remember I got mine a little after Christmas for Orthodox Christmas (which is about two weeks later). The first game I played was GRAW. I loved it at the time. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever
Birthday Present at launch. First experience was PGR3, but it sucked. I popped in PDZ, and it was good.
Call of Duty 2 was included (Game of the Year edition was free from Gamestop w/purchase), and I bought PDZ and Burnout Revenge. I was sorta impressed by CoD2, my g/f played PDZ for a little bit, but Burnout was the most fun, to me.
I don't remember exactly what arcade games I got, but I actually played arcade games more than anything besides Halo 2 for the first few months.
@SCSITransfer.. Y'mean Quake 4 has Quake 2 included?!? Damn, I didn't know that! I had rented Quake 4 and was mostly unimpressed with it.. I missed out by not getting Q2!
Oblivion, on my friend's console. Which is probably why I never felt a strong urge to get a 360. But DAMN YOU CASTLE CRASHERS!!!!!
/angry fist
My first game was Perfect Dark Zero. I never played any console FPSes before that and I had a terrible time with the game. Then I bought Dead Rising, my console purchase was validated.
I think mine was Hexic. That got me hooked. And then Fight Night Round 3. That game was impressive, and still holds up today.
@rifter01 it was a bonus separate disc so it wouldn't have come with the rental.
My first 360 experience was perfect dark zero on a display system in an electronics store near my house.
After that i played Viva Piniata with a friend and it was so colorful and deep that instantly hooked me up. Now I have my own 360 and VP. :P
It was Gears of War. It scarred me for life.
Even though Sonic's first (this gen) outing wasn't given "the glow". Seeing it run the first time I used a 360 controller, sans setting everything up. That momentum of the game alone was truly awesome (and later getting a set of surround speakers, and a sweeter tv).
Upon my reception of my new hd, I popped in Sonic again. I was in heaven doing a speed run through the first stage. My god how beautiful the game truly is, when you just stop and look around. Speaking of exploration, Tomb Raider Legend is a blessing in disguise as well, the jungles, are filled with so many wonderful colors I never noticed before.
At the moment, just moved stuff, so I've been on a slight break from playing any of my games for awhile. When I get a chance, I will definitely fire up my 360 again sometime.
R6:Vegas, Coop Split Screen Terrorist Hunt. That was the game I bought together with my 360 about a year and a half ago. A friend of mine and I played that from early afternoon until about four in the morning. Since we also got a case of beer, at that point we were too drunk to continue or even sit straight. Great times.
