Do you still think Nintendo forgot about the "core?"
BlindsideDork | 7:53 AM on 10.02.2008 31 comments

Along with probably "killing" what was left of E3, Nintendo has shown off a hefty chunk of stuff & new titles for gamers to indulge in. It might be a little while before we get our hands on them but it is good to know they are in the works.

Anyone else notice the amount of action adventure games announced?

Cosmic Walker

Space Action Adventure game about a cosomonaut on space stations and moon's surface.

Dynamic Slash

Action-RPG about a female knight battling monsters.

Sin & Punishment 2

I think the screenshots speak for itself and it is by Treasure (Gunstar Heroes, Mischief Makers, Radiant Silvergun).

Punch Out!!

Again, must I say anything about this?

Thanks Wa-Keen for the images

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time

Most people didn't play the original on the GameCube but it generally was a hack 'n slash game with magic. And now that the Wii and DS can play together and online...so much win!

Another Code Wii

Is Trace Memory being put on the Wii. I don't think it is a port, but a new version. If you didn't know, this is a adventure game where you have to find out a mystery...like your memory! DUN DUN DUN!!!

Endless Ocean 2

Okay, so this isn't exactly a "core" game but it is cool to note. Also, it is kind of an adventure. You do explore the ocean that is endless...

Take these six titles and add them to some of the known "core" games coming out like MadWorld, Conduit and the all-new House of the Dead: Over Kill and the Wii looks to be shaping a bit up. Seems like here is the core and Nintendo is bringing it.

Perhaps Nintendo doesn't like Reggie and wanted to make him look like an idiot saying they care about the core gamers and having nothing to show while they show the core games now with a real showcase coming up. It's like they don't have to say it, they just show it.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

I think the games have made up a little bit from the horrible EFail.

The games look really good, at least in these shots. Sin And Punnishement 2 looks 360 quaility, and Dynamic Slash has quite a bit on screen there. Cosmic Walker looks like it could be a better PN.03.

I'm excited!

I can only hope that the release of Trace Memory on Wii, will lead to sequels to Hotel Dusk on both the DS and Wii.

I have no idea what Sin and Punishment is.

I think the only issue I have with the lineup they showed is...why didn't they get some of these games out sooner?

But yeah, definitely an improvement over E3.

@Kryptinite

Turn on your Wii, go to the Shop Channel and purchase Sin & Punishment for the VC and find out! Basically it is an onrails shooter type game. Does have a bit wierd controls but you get use to it.

Though this still doesn't make me want to buy a Wii, this is a pretty good showing. This conference should have been their E3 conference.

Cosmic Walker intrigues me and I'm always happy to see more Punch Out.

Oh shit, I don't have to track down a game to play this? I'll probably end up doing this tonight. I have some Wii points to blow.

Exactly my thoughts. That Cosmic Walker looks very interesting and Punch Out sweet old Punch Out!

Sin and Punishment 2 reminds me of Space Harrier for some odd reason. Anyone else feel this way?

Meh, still not interested in the Wii, punch out looks cool though. I still play Super Punch-Out quite a bit on my *Ahem* old SNES I have.

Sin & Punishment 2 is the most excited thing I've seen on this list. Punch out looks pretty rad as well. Even though this display of games to come is very promising, I still expect very little from Nintendo. It's usually best not to look to them with high hopes.

Definitely a better showing than E3. S&P2 was a nice surprise, but I'm not sure I see a killer app. Maybe Punch-Out, although I didn't much enjoy Wii Boxing.

Also, I don't think Another Code is a port of the (very good) DS game, because there was no sheriff-type guy in Trace Memory.

I never played Trace Memory so I was guessing...and hoping. My brother did but I just ran out of time to try it out.

It looks like the same protagonist (Ashley), though. Trace Memory was one of those games where you don't realize there are multiple endings until you beat it the wrong way and get the depressing one. It's worth playing, I'd say only about 4-5 hours without FAQs.

Trace memory was good.

Never played Sin and Punishment either. Probably won't VC it.

I loved Trace Memory! The story was... confusing, but still good.

And this Dynamic Slash game looks kind of interesting.

They have an impressive lineup (as far as a Nintendo lineup is concerned) but the games they've shown off (apart from Tatsuonoku vs Capcom) are games that I, personally, am only marginally interested in playing. They have a much much stronger lineup then they've ever had, but it's still not enough for me to want to come back to it.

Call me old, but I won't get too excited about any Wii games until I read reviews about the usage of waggle and the option to turn it off. They look good and could be fun, but if its just going to be the same "wave your arms randomly and hope shit works" approach, I'll pass. Looking at you, Castlevania Judgement with your weird Japanime fashion sense.

I have to say, I'm personally very disappointed that the old franchise they were reviving is punch out, but other than that it was a pretty damn good conference. Sin and Punishment 2, Another Code, ENDLESS OCEAN 2 (a personal favorite), and cosmic walker all look pretty awesome. I guess I'll be dusting off the Wii soon!

Some of them look cool, but I got my hopes up for a new Startropics after reading the comments over the past few days, so I'm still dissapointed.

I dunno, man. The only thing on that list that intrigues me is Punch-out, and that game is older than a lot of people on this site.

Apparently, we should have listened to Reggie and Iwata at E3. They said they were going for casuals then and that they hadn't forgotten about us. Turns out... it's right.

I'm really glad that a lot of you are excited, but I honestly am not excited at all by any of these games. None of that have that "WOW" factor to them in my opinion. Oh well. More stuff for all you guys to play and be excited about.

Punch Out looks pretty much unchanged from the last version.
You know, that one that came out in 1994.

Honestly, I think it's really ironic that this time around, the casual crowd is the one that was almost completely ignored.
