That is what you probably are all wondering, those of you who haven't seen it. Yesterday it was released on DVD and I went out and picked it up to test the waters for you fearful fellows. What did I find upon my purchase?
Trailer if you haven't seen it...
Black Sheep
Plot: In New Zealand there are a lot of sheep. Millions as you can see from the poster art. Well a boy gets scared of sheep and goes away from his farm/home. He comes back as an adult to sell his share of the land and stumbles across a friendly face, a cute activist chick, and his brother who is out of his mind. Oh yeah, the sheep ... they are now genetically-mutated and have a craving of flesh. They are not zombies but in a way they are. Cause if you are bitten, you are infected. What happens then?
Nope, not going to tell you! Don't want to reveal too much. Hope I didn't spoil it for you. But that is the general idea. What are they going to do now? How will they survive?
This movie plays out really well. It's filmed so seriously but look at the subject matter.

This idea is just genious. Whoever thought of this is just a mastermind. During the movie, I caught myself thinking that taking this stupid, harmless creature and turning it flesh-eating creature to be afraid of was just the greatest concept ever. Something that could make the above shot look scary has to be good in my book, and it is! I think I love Jonathan King.
I believe the serious direction of this is what makes it so great and funny, along with the sheep. Who would ever think sheep would do this or be able to? I just can't seem to get over that. It adds to the humor level. I laughed very hard and long, but in a good way unlike
House of the Dead which was quite the opposite.
My beefs with this film...there weren't really any. There might have been a spot where I was said, "ok, let's move on" but I think it was just cause I stuff with chili and rice and root beer. Man, I want to watch this movie again!
I can't say much more besides at least rent it, but really
BUY IT! Sure the deleted scenes don't add much to it and I haven't done the commentary but they did include a short 30 second clip exclusively for the DVD (I was going to post it but I think YouTube would frown upon it). The film alone is worth it, it was a blast to watch.
As soon as I saw the trailer this past Spring I got excited and wanted to see it so bad. I was almost afraid that it was hyped up too much in my mind that I would dislike it, but it really wasn't. It actually met my expectations! Black Sheep will forever rank up there with the greats like Shaun of the Dead, Batman Begins, Grandma's Boy, etc...
My Rating: 9.5-10 - Hilarious and cheesy in just the right way, but probably not for the squeemish!
Okay... I'll buy it. Im glad it didnt suck, like Superman Doomsday.
But how did you feel about the second half? not to give any spoilers, but I felt that after a while the tone of the movie changed a great deal, and not for the better. Still good stuff, but not a serious, and therefore not as amazingly ridiculous.
The 2nd "part" did have a slightly different tone but that wasn't a bad thing.
