As a Gamer, who you going to vote for?
BlindsideDork | 9:35 AM on 10.24.2008 88 comments

*sigh*

At least election day is almost here, that means it will finally be over with and we can get along with our lives. That means no more of those negative commericials or crazy people speaking on TV that is an "expert" even though no one knows who they are, kind of like Jack Thompson.

Apparently this election is going to be sort of a big deal. Voting matters, or at least I am told so. Darn those citizenship responsibilities given to us. How dare they give us "power." Which way is your "power" going?

Sorry Europeans, your vote don't count here. Even though some of them are complaining and whining that they should be able to vote in US elections. I see their side of things but c'mon now, we don't get to vote in other countries. Just cause they know about our history and gov't officials more than we do, doesn't mean they should be allowed to vote. Wait a minute...

ANYWAYS!

On November 4 (or before), if you can tear yourself way from epic...who do you think would be a better president for gamers? Which president would benefit or not harm a gamer's world the most? This isn't about spending money, middle names, age, experience, or what have you...but the cold, hard, solid facts towards us gamers.

Maybe we need a Gamer President! Hey...it will happen. Just better not be a Halo kid!

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

If I didn't feel so bad about wasting a vote, I'd definitely write-in Batman for President.

What’s wrong with a Halo kid as president? That would be the biggest budget Inauguration Day ever!

Mike Haggar single handedly cleaned up Metro City so I feel that he has the experience necessary to lead this nation through these trying times.

And I'm voting for Adam's mom.

Before everyone goes all googly-eyed over Obama, I thought I would step in and put at least one "I think McCain is the man for the job" post on Destructoid.

Why? Because his plans aren't filled with liberal ideas that will turn our great nation to Socialism. We'll see how many video games each of us are buying in the future, once Obama decides to "spread the wealth" around. Helping those in need is an honorable thing. Being forced to help a large percentage of those who have no desire to help themselves is a whole other matter. Obama has the looks and the silver tongue -- but he certainly doesn't have my vote.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin's mouth and her vagina?

some of the things that come out of her vagina aren't retarded

OH SNAP!

@BSD: Sorry, but the state of gaming is just way, way, down my list of priorities for things I hope the next president will improve.

@Gameboi: While there are certainly reasons to vote (or not) for each candidate, I don't think you've accurately characterized Obama's platform. Nor is someone who criticizes McCain for being identical to Bush doing much more than reiterating talking points.

Then again, I think the human tendency is to decide first, and rationalize in hindsight, so public political discourse about a coming election is typically terrible at arriving at anything approaching the truth.

There you go...taking the fun and excitement out of everything! But when President <-delete-> takes away your video games, don't say I didn't tell you so...cause I didn't but you know what I am saying.

I've been on the low end of the socioeconomic scale my whole life, so socialism is looking pretty good to me. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to be an expert on the subject, because I'm clearly not, but it's not always as simple as giving a handout to "those who have no desire to help themselves."

I work my balls off to barely get by, like my parents, while trust fund dickholes do nothing and get even richer by exploiting other people. That hardly seems fair, right?

Also, this.

You want to know who is sufferring? The middle class. Socialism isn't a bad thing. I've been down before and I know what its like to try to get out of a hole. People make mistakes and deserve a second chance.

No I'm pretty sure it's doomed regardless of this election, Craineum. It's impossible to sustain a country of self-centered citizens, and still keep everything running well enough to satisfy everyone's lofty standards of what they consider "life".

I'm going for McCain. As a business owner, I am currently poor, married, and living in a 1 bedroom apartment. But, I decided to start a business to get out of that. I don't want to hit some hypothetical ceiling or have my success taxed to hell by Obama. I'm sorry, but everyone has an oppurunity in this country to make it. I came from poor, hard-working people too. But I sure as hell don't hate the "rich" for my problems. I also do not believe that those who have worked many long hours, many long years and took all the risk to get rich should pay for someone who is not willing to do the same for themselves. I work about 60-80 hours a week to keep my business going, and if it becomes really profitable, I don't think I owe anyone a piece of the success that didn't work for it.
Yes, I'll pay my normal taxes (which, if you are self-employed, are insane). But beyond that, everyone has a chance to make it their own way. People really need to get off this "hate the rich" mentality. Who do you think provides your jobs? They could just very well stop using their money to create jobs and keep it all to themselves. On top of this, there's an entitlement mentality in this country where people think they should have something just because someone else does. This country was founded with the promise of a PURSUIT of happiness, not one paid for by others. There is much more to this, but I've ranted long enough. /rant
