"The Wii hasn't been pushed" THEN PUSH IT ALREADY!
BlindsideDork | 11:07 AM on 07.11.2008 21 comments

Time after time we constantly hear developers that are brave enough to work on the Wii that they think/believe/feel that the Wii hasn't been pushed, and that it still has more in its engine-that-could shell. Is it true? Yeah? Sweet, then do it!

Probably one of the first offenders of this was Factor 5. After taking their jabs at Wii and following that up with the poorly received Lair on PS3, they comment on the developers working on Wii projects. They mention how they say developers aren't focusing on graphics at all cause it is a Wii title. Of course they said they were up for a Wii title and then the rumors came in that they were doing a Kid Icarus title. But if it is true, does this concept art really look like it is pushing the Wii? No other information or imagery is out there and it is just concept art but it just seems they are talking a lot.

The most recent "offense" is by Activison and an interview about Call of Duty: World at War. In this Italian (I assume that it is), they talk about details like "Zapper support," 60FPS (30 online), CoD4 engine, and of course that they believe that the Wii hasn't been pushed to its limits yet. Are they someone that could actually do it? There is no real proof that they can do it. All images available now are for the Xbox 457 so I guess we will have to see.

There is one last big game that has been heard throwing around simple lines of "pushing Wii to the limit" and "360 graphics on the Wii!" This is probably one of the biggest Wii titles right now (next to MadWorld of course). So big that they are even pushing for voice chat in their online play. The only difference between High Voltage and this game is that unlike the others they actually have something to back up their claim. And if you missed it, here is the trailer to The Conduit.

Will The Conduit be the first game to actually do what they say all developers should do with the Wii? I don't know but it should and I can't wait.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Concept are is two dimensional, it doesn't push anything to any limits. You're also not going to get 360 graphics on a Wii. On the other hand, we really haven't seen Wii games that look much better than PS2 games, which should certainly be a possibility.

developers get more out of consoles with time. God of War was damn impressive on the ps2, and imo holds its own with most games released on current-gen platforms. i'm sure wii games will look more impressive over time. god of wii? now that would be sweet. chainblades!

I'm really rooting for The Conduit. The new gameplay looks really promising (vids and screens at IGN)but I can't help but be irked by the art. I'll be honest and admit though, that it's story- though gener ic sounding- is a guilty pleasure of mine. By that I mean; Aliens+ conspiracy = Perri Like. I'll probably buy it to support the guys and get something good looking on my Wii. The new Call of Duty sounds promising (technically) but I'll have to wait and see.

Also, I'm not sure how concept art can look like its pushing a system, but those shots are just too ugly for me to believe they are real. Awful awful design, ugh.

I see a little durr about the 360 comparsion and trust me, games on the Wii NOW look better than most PS2 games, minus God of Ware 2.

If you want graphics, don't play Wii.

Also people saying, that they will push the Wii, are just aiming for cheap hype.

"360 graphics on the Wii!"

Are you kinding me? The 360 has alot more RAM and processing power. To say the Wii can have 360 graphis is ignorant.

If the Wii can do 360 then the 360 can do PS5 graphics.

Dude, if they make F Zero ZX then they have pretty much run out of letters. Think, man! Maybe SX would be a better option.

Hopefully we can have someone push it to it's limits. I'm willing to bet that, while The Conduit will have some of the best graphics on the Wii, they will be as good as mabye a late Xbox or PS2 game.

Also, TF2 last night was fun. Kicking anyone without a mic=WIN

RE4 looks great on the GameCube.

So, if a GameCube game could look THAT good, why can't a Wii title look 1.5 times better?

All it takes is effort.

I think the Wii has proven it can do better than late X-Box / PS2 graphics. Just look at Galaxy. And... well, just look at Galaxy. Oh wait- Metroid too.

I agree, it's time for developers to step it up. I hope they were just caught off-guard by the Wii's success and have been working on AAA titles for the last year or so. At least Capcom seems to have something up it's sleeve (Flock).

And I really hope the Conduit is good, cuz it's gonna be a long way down from all this hype.

It can definitely be pushed further than it has been so far but I agree with most everyone else here (or some of you) that people didn't and don't plan on buying a Wii for it's graphics. Super Mario Galaxy looks pretty damn amazing to me, oh and it was fun..yep

The Wii can do normal mapping, and thus it having "Xbox 360 graphics" is all a matter of how much time the art department puts into a title.

I just want F-Zero already. It can and will push the Wii to its limits. If it doesn't, I will kill the first living thing I see. And the next after that.

I just want something fun that isn't another minigame compilation. More stuff like Super Mario Galaxy, please.

I'm with Mxy on The Conduit. A game can look as pretty as it wants but if it sucks balls then what's the point?

I'm willing to give it a chance, though, which is more than I can say for most of the Wii titles I actually own.
