This is my entry into the wonderful world of Does it Suck? - Contest Edition. I've decided that I wanted to do a game that I had feelings was going to suck from the moment I heard about it, and told my girlfriend that we should in fact, not get this game. But I'm reviewing it, so we all know how
that argument turned out.
Here are the basics:
Developer: Tenyo
Released: November 26, 2007
System: Nintendo DS
The Story (or lack there of):
You are a wonderful young magician, who wants to learn how to do tricks, like card tricks and memory tricks (sometimes you use your own cards) and if you don't have anyone to show your tricks to (read:lame person) you can always just watch some trick performed by the master magician himself!
Doing this unlocks Magic Points, which allows you to buy more spells.
Graphics:
The graphics seem to be very basic for a DS game. It's not incredibly hard to show what a card looks like, and things seem to have depth when you aren't doing a trick. Overall I think the graphics stand out a little. Also you have a very not suitable for young children girl who guides you through things, and some things she can say can be taken the wrong way.
Game Play:
So the game starts off with a door. You have to knock on this door to get let into the magic shop. This part was stupidly neat. Then you open the door and see...
Okay, so we have some door knocking... and then some weird jester with knockers, maybe this game won't be so bad at all :P
So Since I'm all alone with no one to show my magic trick to, because I don't want people to see I'm playing this right now, let me just open up and do the first magic trick.
Controls:
Use the stylus as each magic trick tells you to. Sometimes you may need some outside props to go along with your magic tricks.
Back to the Game:
So the first trick I had to do required me to use 5 outside cards, which I told the DS what ones I was using, and then I was told to move my finger a few times, and then it guessed the card I ended with.
amazing... I have no idea how it was done... or how any magician ever did something that calculated.
I did a few more tricks, and they all seem to be the same, you know how these were all done before, and they are just very simple mind tricks, like when they know your card, or when they make your card disappear (by changing all the cards, but you only should notice the one)
And you know things aren't random, since it's all computer generated.
CONCLUSION:
I'm going to have to go and say that if you are a child, and really like dumb magic tricks that this game shows and does, that all in all you may not hate this game as much as I do. However, being 21 and knowing all these simple tricks already, turns me off of the game. So I'm going to have to go and say that if you are young and like magic this game is for you.
other wise....
8/10: This game has major suckage issues. Unless you are a young child, who will run around to their parents to show them your neat new "trick" you aren't going to enjoy this game.
