Blipfest: Day 1 (slightly NSFW... sadly...)
Black Yoshi | 2:09 PM on 12.10.2008 16 comments

Hello! Before I get started I just wanted to give a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Wardrox! May your mohawk stay upright and yellow! <3

...

Well, it's certainly been awhile hasn't it? Sorry that I haven't been terribly active, but I am still around. Good thing too, because otherwise I wouldn't have found out about Blip Festival, a showcase for chiptunes artists, in New York City. After asking around and managing to find accomodations with the amazing Superflossy (who let several people stay at her place by the way... she's cool like that :D), the stage was set for me to finally make a trip to the Big Apple!

So like I said, the awesome Superflossy let me stay with her for the weekend. Little did I know she keeps some pet monkeys. Some very creepy monkeys:

In case it isn't clear, that was touching itself while making an introduction...

...

Back to good happenings, on Friday Superflossy and I enjoyed a lovely brunch together before going to the Metropolitan Museum:

At the Met we got to see some amazing displays of Greek and Asian art:

There was also an indoor recreation of a garden/courtyard, that was stunning. Sadly though I got yelled at by security for trying to eat the fish in the pond:

Before we parted ways for a bit we tried to find out what all the NY Dtoiders were up to. Sadly it was like herding cats:

Until I got on the phone and straightened everybody out:

Having a few hours to kill on my own, I wandered around and came across the Museum of Sex. How bad could it be, right? Well it was bad... Real bad...

Funny at times, but anything that has Paris Hilton in it is still bad... (hopefully I've censored this enough that it doesn't offend anyone)

After the second traumatizing experience of the day I did finally meet up with everyone to have some delicious Mexican food...

... followed by some yummy New York style pizza.

Samit almost provided the highlight of the night, noticing a spelling error on the menu and almost telling our very large waiter about it. Shame, as I'm sure his beaten and bloodied body would have made for a great pizza topping.

Thus concludes my first day in New York. Stay tuned for pictures that are actually from Blipfest! :)

PAX 2008: My experiences
Black Yoshi | 6:06 PM on 09.06.2008 37 comments

Hello everybody! I recently went to PAX, and heard of a website called Destructoid. Seemed like an okay enough place for people involved in video games (like myself, he he), so I thought I’d share my experiences.

Let me start off by saying that this was my first time in the United States of America. Things are very different than where I come from, so before I went to PAX I thought I’d take some time to see the local sights…

… indulge in some fine American cuisine…

… become informed with the vast amounts of American literature…

… and do a little shopping in some fashionable American clothing stores…

Eventually though, it was time to go to PAX. The event every gamer (and game icon) looks forward to. Funnily enough it turns out that I wasn’t the only Black Yoshi there…

Not sure who those people behind us were though… Bunch of crumb-bums, camera whoring into our picture. I suppose I should feel flattered though that they wanted to be in a picture with us so badly.

Anyways, seems that not everyone was as welcoming to Black Yoshis. Seems some people already had black covered, and didn’t want us hoarding in on it…

I don’t care if she’s not happy about it, I didn’t appreciate how rudely she treated me!

Thankfully I found some nice princesses who appreciated me for who I was…

Boy, did they appreciate me. ^_^

Now here’s where this story ties into Destructoid. I went to a panel on how to build an and promote an online community, as I’m looking at getting something started that would be aimed at all the Yoshis out there. All of a sudden this fellow with a metal hat came around and sat down nearby. He took the hat off and wandered away, so I took advantage and got myself a nice seat for the panel.

Turns out that this helmet is the mascot for a website called Destructoid, and after speaking with a few people around it seemed like an neat place to visit. :)

All good things must come to an end though, and I along with a few other weary travelers waited at the airport for our respective flights home.

 about me

Hello! I'm a Black Yoshi!

After meeting a lot of you at PAX '08, I stuck around. Mostly lurking, but trying to keep in touch. I recently had another chance to experience the insanity that is Destructoid live at Blipfest '08, and was reminded why I stick with this site. <3
