Wipeout HD FURY review (edit)
Black Nexus | 1:54 AM on 07.31.2009 7 comments

(the original post was done on my blackberry but upon upload I noticed some things got lost in translation, so I had to fire up my computer and totally redo this)

In the fall of last year a glorious little gem hit the psn last year, it was a downloadable title that could get in the face of any big game released and the name of this game was Wipeout HD, it was my first wipeout game and I loved it, crisp visuals(full 1080 P), tight controls, and a fantastic sense of speed, unfortunately also around that time we collapsed our stock market and it had just dawned on people that were in a recession(something that the people with more than half a functioning brain had realized 2 years earlier) so instead of the message boards being filled with praise for such an awesome release, it was filled with doom articles because the system it was on was still at a price we demanded it should be all of two seconds ago and wanted another price cut(a year later said system is fine).

When all the dust settle I felt said game was a casualty of the bullsh*t, though many sung its praises because of shear bad timing the game got passed by and received little credit for what it had done, something that saddened me because this was the first game that made me realize that downloadable games can be just as badass as full blown releases. The exact thought that crossed my mind was "oh great, now it will be another fifty blue moons before another dev gets brave enough to try and release something this great again" .still I played the game on and off for a year all the while it was receiving all the patches and every issue was solved (save for one that I'll get to later). Well to my surprise this E3 an expansion pack was announced , at the time I was hoping to hear word of a sequel in the works but considering what happened to the game I guess I'll thank my lucky stars for the expansion.

So that Thursday night I got a psn card, got home, cast off the old shirt and tie and got my chillin clothes, and got to downloading, and the first thing I noticed was (like the original game itself) was that the download was taking a bit of time. At first I just thought the fact that I was also getting the killzone 2 map packs and the dissidia demo (plus my brother in the living room computer sucking bandwidth as usual) was to blame, but upon firing up wipeout HD I realized why it took so long, what Liverpool studios called an expansion, most of today’s devs would call a sequel.

(In the end this ended up a semi review of Wipeout HD as well)

Wipeout HD is set in a far of future where apparently we've invented hover cars cured all disease and came up with technology that can instantly repair a man and his hover car and get them back on the track in seconds despite the fact that he just had a dark matter blast rammed up his tailpipe. And apparently health care is free and infinite and wonderful because the guys piloting these machines apparently have no fear of death or bodily injury or all other bad things associated with having rockets fired at you.

At its core Wipeout HD is your standard weapons based racer, When you enter a race in wipeout your given a number of ships to choose from, all come from faceless corporations. Each ship performs better than another in some way or another (some are better turners, others have better defense) along the tracks are various pickups (speed boosts, said rockets and dark matter blasts, AN EARTHQUAKE) Every ship is capable of a barrel roll that (when successful) will give you a speed boost (be warned this depletes ship energy whether you were successful or not so use it sparingly) and your basic goal is to make to the finish line while remaining somewhat intact.

One of the things that kept me from getting the past games( and probably many people) is that Wipeout had the difficulty and learning curve from hell(from what I heard), but part of the games appeal is besting the evil overlord empire AI. Liverpool has addressed this issue by saving the evil AI for the elite difficulty and allowing you to switch difficulties on the fly. You’re also given what essentially training wheels in the form of an auto assist that will steer you away from walls. With all this the challenge remains (turn that difficulty on elite and the hate all humans AI will teach you the meaning of pain) while being friendly to newcomers and showing them the ropes without breaking most of their will. Basically even someone with the hand eye coordination of a sloth can gold medal all the races on novice. So essentially you’re getting the best of both worlds in the difficulty department.

While I'm at it I can't really mention wipeout HD without praising its graphics, this is one of the best looking games on any console (and with the expansion the graphics receive a fine tuning making them even more stunning). This game will make you very proud of that HD TV purchase .This game also trades in the gun metal gray that fills most games today for bright vibrant colors so this game is wonderful for your eyes if your tired of seeing brown.

Now what makes wipeout HD fun are the various modes , there's your standard racing mode, the first to make it across the finish line while not being a smoking heap is the winner, speed laps where your given one speed boost and have to figure out the best way to use it in order to meet the desired time, tournament mode 2-10 races with no breaks ,highest points get awarded to 1st placers , most points wins and then there's zones mode (yes I'm about to give zones its own paragraph).

Basically in zones your given the zones ship put on the track which has received a neon face lift (this mode put the rainbow to shame) when the starting light goes off you realize the computer is in control of the speed and all you have to do is turn and avoid wall and in general don't lose ship energy, for every zone you pass ( a set amount of time at a certain speed) the track changes to a different neon color and the speed increases and this will keep happening until you die and explode into cubes that will pulsate to the music ( this kinda reinforces the evil AI thing as if you think about it this is essentially a mode where the computer is assured to kill the player) and it couldn't be more fun, the neon tracks pulsate to the music and echoes the music as you go through tunnels (and this game supports custom soundtracks making this mode even more trippy provided you have the right music) essentially your racing through a giant synthesizer that wants to kill you, and its one of the best modes I ever encountered in a racing game(EVER). Speaking of music I have no complaints, although it’s all techno it’s appropriate given the environment and I actually prefer the soundtrack over my own music.

The colooooooooors

And when I said this game had a great sense of speed I wasn't kidding, HD is one of a few games that can get in burnouts face and actually have a chance. You basically start of at venom class speed (the beginners speed) and move on to flash class (fast but manageable), from there you move on to rapier class speed (what we humans refer to as mach 10...... My preferred speed) and then there's phantom class (AKA the have fun trying not end up a stain against that wall over there speed).

Add in stat tracking and rank support and all this added up to one of the better games of 2008, and this is before one of the most kickass expansions ever was given to us.

The FURY expansion gives you improved version of all ships (all seem more combat ready, given the new modes it makes sense) and 3 new modes (that can be used on all tracks) eliminator, detonator, and zone battles (two can be used online), new tracks and a few new techno beats to jam to while you fly down the road, all topped off with a brand new campaign.

on the bottom oldschool, on the top new hotness

Detonator is the new offline only mode, in essence its zones mode with an interesting twist. Your goal is to achieve the highest score you can, and now there are mines on the road and your zone ship has laser canon machine guns attached to it. You get points for blowing up the mines and bonus points for continuously blowing up mines without missing shots so it will work against you if you just hold down the fire button. besides holding down the fire button is just not recommended, you have infinite ammo but your clip is limited and apparently your guns are being reloaded by revolver ocelot because they take their sweet time getting back online, considering acceleration is automatic (like zones) running out of ammo at the wrong time will pretty much assure you'll end up eating a mine (or five).Mines you miss will end up as shadow mines on the next lap so if your aim sucks you will have a crowded road real quick.

How do you me expect me to shoot straight with all these colors in my eye?

Zone battles is a race to see who can make it to the target speed zone first, acceleration is handles buy the player this time as once you gathered enough energy (through the speed paths that replace the power ups) your allowed to do a zone boost. When you boost to a new zone your speed increases (making it somewhat harder to hit the speed pads) and you leave behind a zone barrier, if placed right the barrier can destroy any energy your opponent has accumulated (as well as take a chunk of their health bar) and halt their advance to the next zone. However holding out till the zone bar is full then using it will give you a greater jump in zones. This mode pretty much comes down to knowing when its time to use your boost. And in both mentioned modes wipeout HD continues its proud tradition of shaming the rainbow by hitting a color spectrum I didn't even know existed (How do you get Neon black?).

But the last of the new modes (and my personal favorite) is the eliminator. You’re given a point goal to reach and point is achieved by terminating your opponents from existence. Your health recovery ability(in all other modes instead of firing a power-up you could choose to absorb it to repair your ship)is replaced with a temporary shield sacrificing the power-up for a few seconds of protection( the normal shield power up as well as speed boost, and auto pilot have been removed from this event) and health is recovered by completing a lap, also in this mode you have the ability to flip your ship 180 degrees and drive ( and fire) backwards, this being a bit risky considering you slow down for a second when you do this so should you attack miss your opponent can and will capitalize on the opportunity. What this mode essentially breaks down into is a hovercar roadrage, just instead of ramming into each other we fight like sophisticated men and women (with rockets, missiles, mines, bombs, plasma blasts, and leach beams).

That’s what you get for racing the Goteki 45 bitch

The online play is smooth as silk and even if the host drops the game simply makes another player the host without so much as a hiccup. Custom soundtrack, cross game invites and every other bell and whistle gamers bitch about today are present and accounted for save for one (remember waaay up at the beginning of this wall of text there was one unanswered issue here it is) and it that there's no voice chat. This is an odd omission considering every other feature under the sun was put in this game. From a pure practical standpoint this doesn't affect game play because there are no co-op modes what so ever but I find it odd they left out the easiest feature to implement.

However even with that flaw on its record I can't recommend this game enough, if you own a ps3 (and are not in a psn cardless territory) you should own this game as its better than a lot of the full priced games released today. If you are in a psn card less territory when you do eventually get them grab a 50 and spend 30 on this game and its expansion, you can thank me later.

(This review was brought to you buy Assegai, because the 52000 loyalty points I have with them implies they own me).

E3 expectaions: Sony and Nintendo home console's edition
Black Nexus | 2:01 PM on 04.19.2009 9 comments

Disclaimer: This article is very pro Sony and pro Nintendo, so if your a fan of the multiplat is the way of the future method no disrespect to you, but this blog was not written with that in mind, this blog is the result of a dinner with a few friends and their collective opinions and none of them were really pleased with the MS (and thus there isn't going to be an article on them)method of doing things, however this was a good conversation that yielded some good points so I thought I should share.

Because this blog is mostly a bunch of opinions from a group of people ( even though the words I, me , and myself will pop up often) I will add my own opinion towards the end of each segment.

Sony

Sony is in a weird position this gen after leading for the past two, the ps3 wasn’t received well early and only recently got back on track with public opinion. It would seem most of this was caused by the recession, and a few bad decisions on the part of the Sony’s head offices.

Despite all that however they're very poised for a comeback, mostly due to the fact that a lot of the BS they spewed early on was not BS and eventually came to pass, most importantly of them (and they’ll let you know this often) is blu-ray’s victory as the successor to DVD. The constant claim is their main competition the (the 360) will have to retire early due to its hardware issues (and no I’m not talking about the rrod). Sony has claimed that a number of their games simply aren’t possible on other systems.

However if sony really does desire that top spot back there going to have to walk a long road to get there. So with that in mind here’s what I’d like to see from sony this E3.

There main objectives

Kill the me too factor.
Part of the reason sony’s claims of technological supremacy falls on deaf ears is the fact that with multiplats a lot of the ps3 capabilities don’t get used ,with everyone trying to get by devs have shifted their focus from trying to make the biggest and baddest games than and are well trying to get by, therefore a lot of the games on the 360 seem equal to the ps3.So heres a few suggestions to kill that off

1 create the rift
Killzone 2 was a good start but keep it up, this E3 its time to really show your stuff. While I’ll a admit your first party games are a cut above most multiplats apparently it hasn’t been enough to get your average gamer to give the ps3 a go, add in the media denial and bashing and even great games go unappreciated. You must set out to create games so graphically superior, with such advance AI, and with such great game play innovation that no one would even dare say it could exist on any other system (except PC because apparently I’m told as long as you have a billion dollars for upgrades your pc can even fix the economy). And note the phrase GAMES (plural, like as in more than one), why just one Killzone 2 like quality game. MAG is getting attention for a reason, keep dreaming bigger and better. You have the hardware to support it.

2 Treat devs WELL
Now I forgot where I read this but as I recall Valkyria chronicles was supposed to be multiplat but MS said NO, so they tailored their game engine to take advantage of your system ( and apparently the low sales of Japanese style games coupled with the amount of money and effort that would have to go into undoing some of the engine and refitting to work on the 360 is the reason a port or the sequel going to the 360 is unlikely, really wish I had remembered where I saw that article.) . Now the game went unnoticed and you (sorta) helped by throwing the game in your greatest hits. Go further than that, you created your pub fund now create a pub fund for good games that didn’t make it. If the first game doesn’t make it offer to help with a sequel and advertising (and let them keep the rights to the game) and in exchange this game is exclusive to the PS3. You look good, you have another exclusive, and most importantly devs will feel like safe, and then putting things on the PS3 will be a no brainier, and exclusives will become plentiful.

Games on the PS3 only seem to be quality when devs focus on the ps3 first and foremost, and for devs they will be a little more willing to take a risk and make something other than a shooter, with this the ps3 might be responsible for the new final fantasy or grand theft auto.

3A price cut
Not just for the people, for the devs as well, one of the reason devs are still at ends putting games on ps3 is because people won’t stop complaining about the price.

Let me paint you a picture here, the ps3 gets all the superior games (thanks to its advantages) and terminates the 360. However you have a group of people who have to jump ship and buy a new console. At your current price point that would take time, this means for a year and a half or so 20 million some odd Xbox owners won’t be buying anything. In this economy that’s a large portion of the market to go missing and might result in the smaller companies going out of business or a large reduction in profits ( and in turn lost staff and such), not a pretty picture is it.

The PSN
Sony PSN is your wild card, free is a price everyone can love and in some aspects its better than xbl, but it still needs some fine tweaking. A few suggestions (I hope I hear at E3) for ya,

1 Add a party system (this is the keep silver dragon happy part of the post)
Listen I don’t care about cross game chat but their needs to be a party system of some sort, as a PS3 FNF regular organizing these things is a bit of a mess, and being able to form a party (say about 50 people or so) would help dramaticly. Most of the stuff that made the RUMORED 2.70 list would also be nice (There was a bit of a group WTF here at dtoid when we actually saw 2.70 hit)

2 More ps1, ps2 stuff
For guys who talk about profit a lot you sure pass up easy money often, there should be more classics on psn plain and simple.

3 make sure EVERYONE gets updates
Apparently theres content discrepancies between Japan, USA, and Europe, for now we will focus on Europe because they get screwed the most, Now I am aware that the head of SCEE is retiring so with that in mind here’s my advice to his successor , Grab the guy who heads the Japanese division , get the American guy and start coordinating, I know there are going to be some differences in content and timing but last year ( specifically the SSF2THD or however you say it ) was a true example that you have chimps running some of your offices.

And now a few final tips for E3

1 When you announce a launch date, hit the launch date
Actually you guys have been good with this so far, just keep it up.

2 We honestly couldn’t care less about your finances
Even though it’s a business summit, and you like money YOU HAVE SAID THAT ENOUGH, you are japans #1 retailer, you just streamlined your business, and your still in the top 100 richest companies (were even Microsoft and their windows monopoly was knocked to around 160) you got one more “were about profit” excuse left before I sic my armored core on you. The we are about profit thing is no longer an excuse for stupid decisions, GAMES GAMES GAMES got it.

Black Nexus opinion time
Personally I would love to see all of the above happen, Sony took the same strategy they always took but because of the recession they were damned for it, even when they turn out right the media still gives them hell. I have always been taught to live by a few phrases, if it ain't broke don’t fix it, don’t panic under pressure, patience will win the day. In my opinion sony adhered to all of these and are now reaping the rewards, while there claims of there main rival’s hardware hitting the wall are arrogant, there not without evidence. Microsoft rushed into the situation and used what was apparently a bit of a double edge sword, it let them take an early advantage but it came with a price they would have to pay down the road , and now were starting to see that price( this is understandable considering they are still the console new guy). A lot of Sony’s words came true BUT they shouldn’t get that arrogant, as I said earlier they still must walk a long road , but if the walk that long hard road, nothing but good awaits them in the future.

(BTW I’m focusing on the home consoles so the psp, psp2 (I hope), DS, and DSi will be covered in another post)

Nintendo time

Ahh the Wii (settle down Jonathan Holmes Good constructive things will be said here so turn off the destroyer cannon, but I am going to crack jokes here and there), the system that’s number one in the sales charts, yet seems to be hated by so many. Part of the hatred seems to be at Nintendo themselves, and another part seems to be at the Shovelware Ocean that plagues the system, what’s even more the shovelware sells like crazy. Nintendo seems pleased with this (and after the gamecube who wouldn’t) but their core fanbase and the hardcore are condemning them for it. With that in mind let’s serve up some E3 suggestions.

Choose your path
Nintendo says they haven’t forgotten about the hardcore to this day, the fact that they have to constantly say this proves you may not have forgotten but your not really doing anything about it. A lot of the ‘core’ titles are from 3rd parties, and at GDC what did you do, you announced a new Zelda game ………….. For the DS. How long have we been screaming for a new metroid (even a 2d one), listen Nintendo this E3 choose your path. Hardcore Wii fans are constantly getting their hopes up just for you to piledrive them back into the ground, one ‘core’ title every blue moon is not supporting the core gamers. If your not going to support them let them move on, it’s fine if you’re going to dedicate yourself to casual gamers but state that instead of keeping up this “we still support the hardcore” charade.

Help devs
Your experiencing a similar problem along with Sony, 3rd party devs just can’t get there mojo going on the Wii. This is mostly due to the fact that there’s barely any middle ground on the Wii due to the heavy reliance on the motion controls. Like a small nick on a collector’s item degrades the value of the item greatly, a small screw up in the controls totally ruins what should have been an awesome game and you’re not doing anything about it. And not letting devs no about Wii motion plus to the last minute really didn’t help. 3rd party devs are saying screw the Wii (no pun intended) for a reason.

Send some of your devs out there that understand how to make the controller do their bidding to those third parties, very few people besides yourself seem to know how to get these controllers to work, taking care of this alone should greatly reduce the shovelware.

Fix your online
Your online system is technically on online system like an ounce of sauce on dough with a grain of cheese is technically pizza, BARE BONES doesn’t even begin to describe it and what’s worse is that a lot of the online problems are simply bad decisions and have nothing to do with the systems actual capabilities.

Friend codes are anything but friendly, and with your channels system right there (how hard is it to make a friend’s channel) it really doesn’t make sense. And don’t even get me started on how badly the system lags, with 1,000 hands I couldn’t count the number of disconnects I have had.

Black Nexus opinion time
other than what’s above and a few other small gripes Nintendo has basically done everything else right. However I honestly think the days of hardcore Nintendo have come and gone and frankly they probably no longer have an interest in us (Its hard to here us on top of a giant mountain of money). But even with that in mind ill hang on to the wii with the hope that one day I will see a new 2d metroid . However one thing has yet to be decided in my mind and that’s whether or not the Wii is a fad that will fade ( sorry but living through the 90’s has made me skeptical of things that become that popular that fast for no apparent reason) recently Nintendo has been worried as hardware sales have been dropping somewhat, it will be interesting to see how they respond to this at E3 (I know they claimed games will spur hardware sales but if they ‘re losing the casual crowd they better announce something other than Wii lawnmower).

Well that’s some of my E3 expectations. I’m sure I missed some so if you have any opinions to add feel free, and while I appreciate enthusiasm( that’s what it was called before we invented the term fanboy) lets keep the swearing and name calling to a minimum as I’m sure somebody out there is going to have a different opinion. I'll do more of these leading up to E3 so leave some recommondations here if you want to here about a particular topic in the future.

The routine : how family can affect gaming
Black Nexus | 8:49 PM on 03.08.2009 5 comments

FYI You will have a better grasp of this c-blog if you have brothers and or sisters whom you grew up playing games with.

I own killzone 2 ,just got persona 3 fes and rouge galaxy, and its double exp weekend in world at war, so I had to ask myself WHY ON EARTH AM I PLAYING POKEMON( while I'm typing even). I'll tell you why ,my brother.

As some of you may know pokemon platinum comes out march 22 and he made his intent known in my residence that he would be making a purchase and asked me if I was getting it ( with a bit of a smirk on his face). Now I know what this, this face means I hope your getting it too so we can restart this famous ( at least in my house ) rivalry that goes back to the red and blue version days, in that I bought both versions ( one for each of us ) and a link cable just to see whom had the higher leveled Bigcockizard ( thanks y0j1mb0 for that one) and then proceded to trade ( I can't tell you how many pokemon I lost to the void )with each other so we could go screw over our freinds.

So here I am by a whim of almost nothing were gonna start this all over again and I have gone so far as to alter my routine.

Guess I should explain that, my routine is the 7 or so games I happen to be playing at the moment, you know the rotation, the line-up whatever you call it ( I've convinced myself every gamer has one ). Considering all the games I've recently added to my collection it would really take something to make me add a year old game to my routine. But here I am grinding through the elite 4 ( FIVE, I DON"T CARE IF YOUR THE CHAMP IF YOUR BLOCKING MY WAY TO THE HALL OF FAME IT SHOULD BE CALLED THE ELITE FIVE) and I was amazed that such a little gesture would hold so much power over my gaming routine. but here I am. Now if you'll excuse me my bigcockizard is 6 levels away from lvl 100 and I still have other pokemon to train hard because my brother doesn't realize that a party consisting of all legandaries might piss someone off ( if you ever go online and fight someone using a lugia,ho-oh.groundon,mew,mewtwo,and palkia it was him, and yes htere is a gmesharked emerald version in my house but I just used it to get lugia, man I miss my silver version ).

but I have to ask this question am I the only one who has ever had a pokemon, battle arena toshinden, street fighter 2, virtual cop tornament just to prove you can out play your brother.

There might be a reason somewhere in this article as to why I like hunting trophies.

P.S for those of you who don't know the void is that space between link cables were pokemon get lost and never find there way out ( put your ear to the cable you can hear the cry's). I'm just thankful the ds has wi fi.

10 things you don't know about Black Nexus
Black Nexus | 12:41 PM on 02.01.2009 5 comments

And what silverdragon started I shall continue.

10. Im Puerto Rican,African American,and Native American.
And all I can speak is english.

9. I am a die hard connect four fan.
I adopted this from the summer camp I used to work at.

8.My first game was super mario brothers.
I still consider it better than most of the stuff nintendo makes today.

7. My back teeth are huge.
And for a while my speach was slured because of it ( until I grew into it ). The thing is everyone in my family thought I was a retard (even my mother WHO HAD THE DENTIST PHOTOS ). It did'nt even occur to me That they thought that about me until two years ago when everyone was treating me like that. Needless to say when I figured out that everyone thought this about me I got PISSED OFF.

6.I am (was)a social introvert ( see 7).
Because of that I just did not talk ( like all thoughout high school) I just didn't want to even see another human ( just mad at everyone ). I had an inner cirle but that was about it.

5.I am HORRIFIED by the word dentist.( again see 7).
If you even say the word cavity I'll run for my life.

4.I'm an insomniac.
If I don't have work the next day expect to see me on psn till 4 in the morning.

3. I think X is cooler than zero.
He just is. Yeah I'm aware that he bitches about peace until you want ot throw the controller at the tv but that just makes it funnier when he mows down enough reploids to populate a planet. Zero is just a moody guy with a sword( like we never seen that before ). I still like him and he makes a better sidekick than axl(ugh) but in that X5 fight whenever I play Zero gets blown the hell up in that fight between him and X. Plus watching every reploid call X ancient junk and then get destroyed by him is just funny.

2. I am a Phantasy Star Online maniac.
My friend introduced me to this game back in the dreamcast days. I fought my way to lvl 125 proudly and when the dreamcast died, I bought the gamecube version And took my new character to lvl 143. And if they ever realease this on psn ( I can dream )expect to see a Lvl 143 hucast with flowens sword down in ruins 3 beating the hell outa everything.

1. Getting my ps3 and Xbox 360 for free remains my greatest trick to date.
I was just an average student when I went to college. My father did not think too highly of my academic prowess at the moment ( little did he know I could be a straight A student I just did'nt give a damn because well see 7). So I bet him that If I could Get at least decent grades he would have to buy my ps3 and 360. He laughed and took the bet .So 2 years worth of straight A's later I was playin resistance while everyone was going OMG 600 dollars. I love it when a plan comes together.

(short blog ) To the PSN FNF crew and Y0j1mb0,you have my respect
Black Nexus | 8:03 PM on 01.24.2009 15 comments

As a former solo games only gamer I wanted to pay my respect to the PSN Friday Night Fights crew. You have shown me that you guys Know how to party. As hard as I laughed (And as much experience as I gained ) I'll be a regular ( ever since TGIF went off the air indoor fridays have seemed lacking).

And to Y0ji1mb0 who today I had the honor in facing in SSFTHD ("sigh" somebody could have warned me about him I haven't played street fighter 2 in 11 years and that is not the first match I want with 11 years of rust on me) but I must credit you for the matches you won.And while the number of losses I sufferd shall remain undisclosed I saw the mistakes in my style and I'm working on improving the flaws. But whenever someone displays that much skill at any game I must pay my respect ( or acknowlege the black magic you used to gain such skills, what kind of price do you have to pay in the future, your beard or sumthin).

And so I create this short blog as my way of thanking everyone.

But seriously SOMEONE could have warned me he was going to total me like that.

PS: how the hell do you unlock akuma , I can't belive I forgot THAT.

Mega Bosses: fun or torture ( and where it got started)
Black Nexus | 5:44 PM on 01.21.2009 13 comments

Remember him .If you do chances are you said one of the following ,either (A)ha ha ha ha I terminated your a$$ or (b) I'll have my revenge...........................someday.But to me emerald will have a special place in my gaming career as my first mega boss. I remember it like it was yesterday,I had just gotten through that fight with that annoying big clawed robot, and had just sunk the shinra sub.My ego was feeling rather large and at the moment I thought i could take anything this game could throw at me.I had just gotten control of the the sub in time to notice the big green thing floatin my way, so I went to the surface and saved(I may have had a big ego at the time but I'm not stupid).I figured I would go back down there, kick it in the flippers, take its money and go on about my day.

about nine seconds later I was staring at the game over screen wondering how emerald kicked my ass in two moves.Me and friends thought that was a glitch he just hit me for 9157 damage in one attack. The next day a quick trip to the local barns and noble games guide section and a little diggin told me just how crazy this fight is.

to make it worse emrald had a freind.

I wont even elaborate my feelings about this bastard.lets just say I hate him, his quicksand, his ultima spell, and his pimp slap of destruction and move on.

But these two will be rememberd (at least in my opinion) as the duo that started the super bosses. An enemy ( or enemies) that you don't have to fight, makes the last boss look like a joke. AND WILL KICK YOUR SORRY ASS WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE.

I started noticing this trend among the later square soft (or squae enix if your not that old) of including these bosses in there games.By disc three in FF8 I hadn;t even heard the word weapon and I was somewhat relived, MY freind had given me a tip about the deep sea research center and the strongest GF(summon). One bahamut boss battle and an annoying steam puzzle later I found myself at the very bottom of the deep sea center. My friend told to use the last 10 steam pressure units pull the lever ( Laughed like hell) and hung up.

now Im not new to this, I knew some towering behemoth was gonna fly through the wall the moment I looked at that switch. but I was lvl 100 and had the lion hart(heart, whatever) what could go wrong.

Two words, light pillar

Ultima weapon( the original pain in the ass) cheapest attack. An attack that no matter how powerful you are IT WILL ALWAYS KILL YOU.I musta went at this thing 25 times before I won.I thought the worst of it was.done, then I met omega.

Well not to drag this on the point im tyin to make is I actually enjoy these fights. My friends however loath these fights with a passion. so to end my first real C-blog( I don't count intros) I leave a question.

Do you look foward to these fights like me or do you not ven bother with em.

oh and some honorable enemies whose heads hang on my gaming wall.

O.K I wish yiazmat was hanging on my wall but I'm workin on it
