So I've been getting back into this gaming culture after about a 3 year hiatus called
I went to school and discovered several great things like: Jack Daniels
Big Boobs
Sorority Girls
I joined a fraternity and gaming took a backseat to graduating, drinking, and having fun. Since I have returned I have found that new sites have popped up, like D-toid, Joystiq, Kotaku(WTF!), 4chan etc.
I have been having fun with all of you here and I love talking about one of my passions with people that also share that passion(although apparently not Halo or sports titles), but I'm also wondering what has happened, in some ways to the culture I loved.
When I was in high school and a self-proclaimed geek, people either couldn't understand me, or thought it was cute that I was a computer nerd. ZDTV was around then and I loved watching that channel for all the DIFFERENT topics they covered. I loved watching Screen Savers, Extended Play, Call for Help and others. There weren't that many gaming sites out there, IGN, Gamespot etc, but blogging sites hadn't taken off nor user-generated content sites like youTube, any of the Wiki's and so on. So most of the gaming culture online, was through professional channels. Now I'm out of college, working a job and have a lot of time on my hands to play the games I want, not to mention money. And what have I found?
Gaming has become 'popular'.
And I HATE it.
Why do you hate it BigPopa?
Don't you enjoy seeing new people begin playing games with us and sharing their experiences? Hell yes.
Do you think it's awesome seeing gaming issues like Manhunt's ban getting more attention and for games to begin the long, hard path to an equal rating system? Yep, no problem there.
Do you want more classic games re-released on the DS, PSP, and Virtual Console so newer gamers can experience what you did? Absolutely.
What I hate is the feeling that the thing I loved has become mainstream and whored itself out to the masses. And we are being represented by assholes to non-gamers.
Nothing reveals this more to me than this man:
amd this man:
Your shows, along with indepdently produced shows *Cough* EG *Cough* only show that gamers are douche bags. Thank you Mr. Sessler and Mr. Pereira for being our spokes people for gamers everywhere and giving us all a bad rep.
Consider yourselves Pimp Slapped.
P.S. But thank God for Morgan Webb and Olivia Munn. Even if they don't really play games.
Remember that people who whine and complain about other people are just compensating for a low self esteem!
