DW1 is ridiculously hard if you're not ready for it. If you hang around and kill stuff until you can afford better weapons though, it gets much easier. Also, once you learn HEAL and HURT, it gets a bit easier to kill things too. Also, be careful about what bridges you cross. :)
I've prepared for any old-school RPGs by playing both FF 1 and 2, and whilst the first game was tough-going and formulaic, the second was great.
Yeah, I've only played DQVIII, good luck with your quest. Keep up the good blogs. :O)

One of, if not THE, first thing I did with the internet when I first discovered it in the mid-nineties was look up maps to Dragon Warrior. So much confusion about whats going on and where to go.
I think it might be one of the most memorable games ever for me. I've played it to death over the years. I also have the gameboy color 1&2 collection. Did you know that putting it in a super gameboy gives it a Dragon Warrior background around it? I think it changes depending on if you're playing one or two.
If you get stuck or need a push in the right direction just ask.

Yeah, I don't have a GBC, so I had to play it via the Super GameBoy. I was really suprised by all the great artwork around the borders. Unfortunately, it the SGB doesn't work at all with Dragon Warrior III. On the NES, it's been so brutal that I've been tempted to just go back to the GBC version and play it there (I played about five hours into it before the NES version arrived and got much, much farther in it... it's a lot easier), but I feel like I should stick with the original as the brutality may be a big part of the experience.
Lol, I feel a part of your pain. I was downloading maps for this game within five minutes. I'm glad you liked it. Did you play any of the other NES games?
Funktastic:
Sorry, bud, I had to move on or that game would've swallowed me whole.
BUT, maybe, if you're really good this year, Santa might bring you a PS2 memory card with my game save on it so that you can play through them. He doesn't have your address though, so you'll have to email it to him at { ben at undinestudios dot com }.

But, boy, is it hard...
BatThink:
I will, thanks for reading! And FF was waaay too hard for me...
ShawnKelfonne:
yeah, but I get the feeling that's the way it is with all the DQ games... I died a lot at first with IV and VIII as well. Oh, and HURT really brings the... well, you know... the hurt. I hung around the other side of a bridge for the majority of my play time, just hitting magdrakies, scorpians, and magicians with HURT, only returning to town to refill MP and save.
