DQIX is only the second game in the series I've played with Rocket Slime being the first. I'm really surprised with how much I'm enjoying IX though. I haven't been this addicted to a game in a real long time. I'm considering buying the game for my dad now just so I can have someone to multiplayer with haha.
I love these blogs, every one of them.
I'll be picking this up on Friday ( Euro release day). It will be my first DQ, and I probably wouldn't have bought it had I not read your Dragon Questing series. I've been listening to some of the music and this does seem like it has a worse soundtrack than the other games, but other than that I see no reason not to love this game.

Intriguing mate! I'll have to ask you, since you know your Dragon Quest and all. My one issue about actually really getting into the game was the whole level reset thing.
So say a Warrior gains an ability every 5 levels up to level 40. In theory, after he reaches level 40, there's no real point in keeping them a Warrior and I can change classes/jobs, start back at level 1, but KEEP all of the Warrior abilities? If so, this game will be played, hahaha! Also, does being a Warrior like permanently increase your Strength stats or anything, so you'll have to plan your classes/jobs and leveling up accordingly? Or is it all equipment based?
If you could answer those questions, that'd be grand mate. It may still be a while for me to play this though, since I think I've come to the conclusion I'm not picking it up until PAX, since the SUPER LAME Canadian version of the game has this UGLY ASS "French Version sign" on the artwork instead of in the corner like most other games . . . yes . . . I'm that paranoid of it, hahaha!

I'm having an absolute blast with DQ IX! I haven't dared change the class of any of my characters yet because of the level reset, but you make it seem not so bad. I think I'll keep chugging along with my current jobs at least for now since I'm nowhere near the end of the game.

Thanks! Enjoy the game in a couple of days!

Haha, I loved that spot! Are you exploiting the tombstone at the entrance? If you stand at the tombstone at the very beginning of the grid-shaped room, monsters will continuously spawn to the left and right of you. Usually in no time at all, a metal slime will generate and you can run up and attack it. It made it easy to go up a few levels.
The mage is awesome!!! But don't forget the priest! Be sure to have one in your party, as aside from some kickass healing spells, they can use spears, which is great for the Thunder Thrust attack.

Did you like Rocket Slime? I thought it was a little slice of Heaven...
Definitely consider the purchase of a second game. I bought an extra one as well so my older brother could play, and it's a lot more fun than I though it would be...

I'm so happy you're enjoying them, it really makes my day!!!
I hope IX lives up to your expectations!
And make no mistake; the music is good, just not great. Probably won't get stuck in your head, but you might hum along with it while you're playing.

Whether you get 5 skill points or 100, you keep them when you move to another class.
An example of this could be my main character. He had 100 skill points in Swords (that's the max), but at level 40, it'd be difficult to get skill points in a different area at a decent rate anymore, and I needed more to max out the Shield skillset, so I switched the main character's class to a priest (a class that I know I wouldn't use later for my main character), leveled up in about four minutes, and just threw all of my skill points into the Shield set. When they were maxed out, I simply switched back to a Minstrel, who now had 100 skill points each in both Swords and Shields. Does that make sense?
And there are a ton of class-specific skills you can learn too. Train everyone as a thief for at least a little bit to get skills like Half-Inch (lets you steal), and consider sticking with martial Artist for a bit too because a lot of their skills are like... Natural HP + 60 and stuff like that.
So even if you revert back to level one, you'll still have as assload of really powerful weapons and armor, and have natural HP in the 70s.

I'd go ahead and keep with your current classes until you reach the Bowhole. You'll find LMSs there, and it'd be a good place to grind skill points.
THANKS FOR READING AND LEAVING COMMENTS EVERYONE!!!

Yeah I think I'm going to make the purchase then. I know he'd enjoy it.
I haven't played Rocket Slime in a long while but I remember really enjoying it. I probably would have liked it a lot more if I could try out the multiplayer in that game since it seemed like a pretty cool concept. Hmm I might as well pick up another copy since it's finally made it to the bargain bin haha.

Holy shit! How have I missed all this?!
The only one I've ever bothered with was DQ8, but I'm really interested in the new one after finishing up Crono Trigger DS. It does makes me wonder why we haven't seen many SNES remakes or some old school RPGs on the system. The DS is perfect for these and point 'n' click adventures, but I don't really see anyone pushing the envelope with them; which in a roundabout way is the reason why I'm wanting to play DQ9.

Oh my goodness.... I.. forgot that Rocket Slime had multiplayer!!! Sir, you may have just relit my flame for that game...

You've probably missed it because they're all published near midnight, and done so sporadically; 19 installments in almost two years... not exactly regular. But I'm happy you found it - I love getting comments and faps.
I soooo agree that the DS is perfect for old ports. Chrono Trigger kicked ass, and I've really enjoyed the FF remakes, the DQ remakes, Front Mission, Fire Emblem, Kirby, etc. I really hope that we continue to get games like that after the 3DS comes out, despite it higher power. I probably shouldn't be worried about that though; the PSP is powerful, yet gets some pretty lo-fi games every once in a while...

I had my entire party take a detour into the Paladin class for a while. Now I have a party that can run around naked at Lv 1 and take 0-1 damage all the way up through Gleeba
I'm nearing 50 hours and haven't even bothered finishing the story yet, because I'm having too much fun playing around with classes and skills and searching out alchemy ingredients to make impressive things. My inn is completely maxed out, and I check the DQVC every day for new deals.
Also, nobody in my party is wearing pants.
