About Me
The name is Brent. I currently live among the residents of Virginia Beach, Virginia. I like liquor, women, fighting, poker, and of course video-games. I am overly sarcastic which many mistake as me being an asshat. I currently do not own any next-gen systems due to money constraints but in due time my friends. In due time.

I used to write for GameCube Advanced, an old site back in the day. They are currently known as the Advanced Media Network now. I sometimes believe I have a Video-Game system as a heart, my arms are the controllers, and I feed on shitty published titles (such as Superman 64). Video-gaming is a way of life and much of the Destructoid community knows this.

I <3 you DESTRUCTOID.

CONTEMPLATION EPISODE ONE : The Limit of Graphical Prowess
Beer Baron Brent | 5:34 PM on 12.09.2007 3 comments

Imagine, if you will, a day when the graphic capabilities of the video-game system has come to its maximum. The day of the PS13, Xbox Infinity, and Nintendo Whatever. A day when the graphics of said system are on par with the realest of real. When you can hardly tell the difference between a polygonal character and a real life human-being. Where do we go from there?

It seems that the graphics of any given system is always the indication of its rank among other systems. What happens to that ranking system when graphics can no longer be quadrupled over the previous generation? Will game-play then take the front position of what makes a system truly "next-gen"? Or will it be the ability to produce realistic physics and the like? This may be a long ways away but while sitting on the crapper, it dawned on me. What will the future hold when this day comes? You can't get more realistic then real-life and that day in gaming will eventually come to fruition.

So when that day comes, however long it may be, will we ask ourselves "What system has the most revolutionary gameplay?" or "Which console has the best physics simulation.."?

Who knows... maybe when that day comes the Phantom will be out.

Ya by that time physics simulation will probably already be handled, physics are becoming a bigger and bigger part of games as we speak.
Who knows, I'll be solidly old by the PS13 if you consider that most consoles have y'know around a 5 year lifespan.

I guess. I mean they have improved but I always figured they had a ways to go to actually have TRUE physics. Like... ultra realistic water, smoke, etc. Sure it looks real enough now, but im sure there is a lot more u can do with it. But by PS13, who knows.

This would just mean that studios would have more time to focus on the important things (gameplay, difficulty curve, fun, etc.) instead of making sure that everything looks luscious and sounds sweet. Don't think that the goal should even be truly realistic graphics, because the point should instead be graphics that fit the gameplay and the setting and the tone of the story well. That's all I really need, but if a studio wants to go above and beyond that's fine too.
