Hi there!
I'd thought I'd hit you with a few informative facts after a quick look through Collins'
Complete UK Hit Singles 1952-2005 by Graham Betts last night.
I remembered a remix of the Super Mario Land tune (or that's what I thought appeared in the charts) in the 1990's. After a look in the book, I can actually confirm that it made
number 8, and stayed in the chart for eight weeks, after debuting in 1992. That entry was thanks to a UK group called
Ambassadors of Funk Featuring MC Mario. This group was formed by Simon Harris, who even got an
album release in Japan full of Mario music;
I also spotted that Mr. Harris also recorded a rap over the Street Fighter II music under the name
World Warrior in 1994. It only got to number 70, spending a single week in the chart. And I must make a confession; I may have bought it. I was into video games in a big way, and I bought quite a lot of merchandise. I think I put it in a second-hand charity bin for unwanted music, so I am not blessed with the cassette's presence.
Okay, I also found (an incomplete version of) the video to AOF's Super Mario Land here;

Yes, it was taped off The Chart Show. Those were the days...
