I'd tell you I'm from /v/, but then you'd have to kill me.
Okay, enough horsing around. Hi, I'm Kelly. I'm from Northern California and I play the Vidya. A lot of my energy used to go into becoming a movie buff, but most of that has been transferred over to gaming as of late. I'm typically a PC gamer over anything else (DS too, but I haven't touched that thing in a long time), but I don't see the point in being a snob about it. In fact, I think console gamers are the ones who have the right to be assholes, but that's just me.
ALSO. I work weird hours. So, if you get a post on your blog at an odd hour from me, I apologize. I really do.
Currently Playing:
Knights of the Old Republic 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Plants vs Zombies
I've already written up a couple posts on my blog, but like a child who jumped into the deep end of a pool before realizing she should learn how to swim first, here's my introduction.
I hail from /v/, the wild west of online gaming communities. It's run rampant with tripcode users who think they're celebrities, anons who pretend to be tripcode users to make them celebrities, children who post pictures of boobs, grown men who post pictures of boobs, women who pretend to be men, men who pretend to be women and occasionally video game discussion. The set back to such a community is that I live day to day without an identity and all the posts and comments I make are usually 404'd within the hour. I've been in other message board communities before, namely [Adult Swim], but unfortunately that deteriorated as a lot of us ended up leaving. So, my thirst for a gaming community where I can respect and comment on other people's ideas plus the ability to save what I write brought me here.
I'd also like to add that I'm really pleased to see a lot of other girls here. They seem to be respected just as much as the boys, something I normally have to work really hard for in other gaming situations. That's really fucking rad.
I was raised on games. My Mom swears that she had to frequently compete with the local arcade for dates with my father and ever since I can remember he bought games for me and my brother. I was in camp Sega until the N64 came out, but drifted away from gaming during the Game Cube era. I did enjoy some of the titles on the console, especially Windwaker, but frankly found it disappointing in comparison to the greatness that was the N64. Through college I mainly played my DS, but it wasn't until I graduated that I started getting into gaming much more seriously.
Over the last couple years, I've been systematically playing a lot of games that I've missed or overlooked. To give an example, I've only recently played through Knights of the Old Republic and Deus Ex. Most games that have been released recently I've cycled through, but I know that if I want to talk about games seriously, I need to understand the foundation.
I love any game that pushes limits, distorts reality and plays with my mind a little. I also really love great writing in gaming. The Phoenix Wright series and Hotel Dusk are great examples of this, as is something simple like Paper Mario. Also, I'll pretty much play any indie game you throw at me. Extra points if it reminds me of Gravity Bone.
Finally, I love fanmade content. Bonk songs, for example, are a personal favorite. I also really love this series about Professor Layton. BAAASSSEEBAALLLL.
(and yeah, with the propensity of boob pictures on the front page, and all the "fap" stuff... I think the site can give an initial impression of being a boys locker room... but once you get into the locker room, they're really cool and most of the guys wear towels and don't care that you're a female. Oh, and if any of them do insist on walking up to you stark naked ... feel free to point and laugh!) :)
Hey, welcome to Dtoid. Please continue to not suck.
If you play a lot of multiplayer stuff, post your Gamertag/profile/whatever in your profile. There are always Dtoiders playing something, so try to hop in a game or two.
;_; Oh god, I was totally unaware that some shitty band named their song Bat Country. I just listened to it on Youtube and died a little inside. Leave Gonzo aloooooneeeee
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Welcome to Dtoid!
Dammit, you beat me to it!!
Nice intro blog and welcome to Dtoid!

Is your name a reference to a shit song or an amazing JOURNALIST?
Welcome to Dtoid!
Welcome!
And yeah the name of the song is the first thing that came to mind when I saw your nick. It's even DLC in Rock Band!
Also, correct answer is correct!
I see you commented on my Lucidity blog. Did you happen to come upon it by accident or did you go through my blog backlog?
Just curious. :)
