A definitive guide to Star Wars: My Pants Unleashed: Xbox 360 vs. PS3
BahamutZero | 1:59 PM on 08.23.2008 38 comments

I'll keep this short. I don't have screenshots or HD comparison videos, or even underwear on. But I will do my best to give my impressions based on the demos I played on each system.

First of all, I WILL be getting this game. I was a bit hesitant at first because actually I was underwhelmed a little bit. But after playing through the demo five times I absolutely saw the potential: the skill trees, the saber upgrades, unlockables, etc, EXCEPT THEY BETTER FIX THE GODDAM AWFUL TARGETING SYSTEM. but even that won't keep me from buying it.

360 version:

Pros: Color saturation, specular effects (i.e. shiny), character animation and textures all seem slightly better. Rumble effects are better. Physics seem to have more weight
Cons: The fucking controls / controller , CONSTANT slowdown

PS3 version:

Pros: Silky smooth framerate (I tried as hard as I could to make it slowdown), controls feel better, controller is better, particle effects, force lightning and lightsabers look better.
Cons: The fucking targeting system. Demo Install YAWN

CONCLUSION: For almost the first time of doing this I would say the PS3 version is a clear improvement, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the game had been lead-developed on the ps3. It's amazing what a difference slowdown makes in yanking you out of immersion. The controls simply feel tighter as well, like your mom. Anyway, not surprised if I get shit for this, but I want to say obviously I own both systems and love them both equally, just like I'll love both my children equally. unless one of them is gay.

I never got any slowdown in the 360 demo. Also out of interest, what do you prefer about the PS3 controller compared to the 360 one.

I don't recall much slowdown, perhaps a bit on the 360. Maybe I'll DL on the PS3 and see if you're right.

I played the 360 version and that had really bad controls and targeting system.

Interesting write-up. I'm gonna have to get me one of those demo thingamajigs.

@Redzie
I don't think the targeting system is any systems fault, its just sorta "I'll target what you want if I feel like it" que me looking directly at a tie fighter saying "Target that so I can throw it at someone damnit!"

I just finished the 360 demo, my problem was with throwing boxes. I just couldnt get the hang of building momentum with the left stick. I was hoping for something like the gravity gun. Like you grip and press force push to throw it.

Also that QTE event at the end looked cool, but it took me a long time of running around before it would initiate. I hate QTEs anyways.

So far I havent seen much improvement, besides looks and the new physiscs, over the Jedi Knight II.

also, justice, I like the size of the ps3 controller, and the joysticks seem snappier. obviously the dpad is better. kind of hard to describe. it does depend on the game though, for some stuff I like 360 better

I played it on PS3 and I thought it was pretty decent. Nothing mind blowing like the hype people were giving it.

I still may buy it though... seems like one of the better SW games to come out in the past couple years.

@BHZ
Yeah I agree about most of that, one thing I prefer about the 360 controller is the triggers. They just feel better and I'd say they're more responsive.

Lol PC version :)

I noticed quite some slowdown on the 360, I guess I'll have to live with it.

Is the targeting system worse on PS3 or just further down the list of fail on 360 because it fails more?

And have you played Burnout Paradise? Word on the street is that the PSTriple version blows away the 360.

If it's out on 360, then it'll be out on PC eventually.

I've played both versions, and I do think the PS3 version ran smoother in certain points. BUT, I like the 360 controller better, and Achievements > Trophies.

perhaps the slow down is from it just being a demo?
also the 360 always has more slowdown, fucking shitty caching.

anyway will most likely rent it seeing as how i dont have a job atm and money is tight.

and i only have a 360 so not much of a choice for me.

Played through the demo twice on the PS3, didn't get a chance to download it for my 360 but I'll take your word for it. I'll echo what others have said about the targeting system. Since you have a lot of stuff you can throw around, which is great, picking the object you want to manipulate isn't the easiest thing to do. Maybe after some more practice it will get better but its a minor inconvienence as it stands right now. Bastard jumps real high, too high really, it would be cool if you could jump and then in mid air zoom right at your target for a saber attack maybe that's in the full version? The demo didn't disuade me from purchasing the game, I'm keeping my preorder.

for some reason the targeting did feel a little more haphazard on the ps3, but maybe because I played that one first I'd gotten used to it on the 360. Also I do like triggers on 360 better, especially for shmups and fps. It's hard to describe like I said, but the ps3 version just seemed smoother and more stable all around. Also the contrast seems better

also I made a mistake - the better physics I meant to put in ps3 category, probably as a result of smoother framerates

The same reason why I prefer DMC4 on the PS3. Better controls. The dualshock is perfect for modern action games(i.e. DMC and GOW).

Yeah I was surprised to see that on the PS3 that I had a much better time with it. It moved a lot smoother as well as when I would hit dudes it would feel better.

Maybe the 360 is gay and can sense your latent disapproval. Why don't you try faking tolerance for a few frames and see what happens?

Have to agree with you on this one, d/l'd both and the PS3 version just feels better both controller wise and its beats the 360 version too...Just though.

Was there really control issues with the 360? or do you just prefer the dual shook 3 over the xbox 360 controller which i find the second best controller ever made, (the best controller ever made is the wireless logitech action controller on ps2....tell me I'm wrong)
