I hate to say this. I really do. Because I love the people behind this site in a manner that warms my cockels. Even down beneath the sub-cockel area. in fact it it this love that drives me to say certain things that won't be able to be unsaid and probably won't be very popular. but here goes. whiskey certainly unlocsk my inner asshole
The new color scheme is a horrible eyesore and blatant cash grab for a shitty wii shovelware game and honestly, kind of makes me depressed my favorite rebel games site has succumbed to the green, something I knew was inevitable but still leaves me sort of bitter and sad. Not to mention the new layout has many more ads + adwords that are not discreet and certainly make the experience of browsing one of my favorites sites less of a pleasure.
sorry guys. I had to say it.

We like to eat and poop in our own toilets Bahamut. Do you not want us to eat and poop in our own toilets?
Also, we have LESS ads in this layout change than before. Adwords have always been a part of Dtoid for awhile now. They only come into effect with week old stories though.

Which means no big deal.

And when I first laid eyes upon the new layout, my brain nearly exploded. Regardless of whether Dtoid has sold out, it just doesn't look as nice or cohesive, and with the loss of that cohesiveness it just doesn't look as professional. I felt like I was looking at a completely different site, and that doesn't make me feel at home. There are less ads, but I prefer more ads/better looking to less ads/shit/DecaSports ... although the "Sweat!"banded robot did make me chuckle.
Also, DecaSports had better not get formally reviewed, or I will quit life.

Yes it is different... Turning point (though not GOTY material by any stretch) was something that most Dtoiders MIGHT have been able to get into. It didn't hurt that they were giving away a bitchin' PC with that game either. Also, it didn't have an iris exploding color scheme like this piece of shov-shit-el ware has.
I understand that Dtoid wants to stay in good with Hudson... I mean, if a company flew me out to Japan to put my mascot in their classic & beloved game, I'd want to keep them happy too. But a respectful "Eh, I don't think this is for our audience, what else do you have" should've done. I would've much rather seen a Star Soldier R "site skin".

The day we are told that we can't post comments or blogs that might piss off advertisers and 11/10 reviews start rolling in will be the day I say that Destructoid has sold out.
@13th Dragon
Cockles are the thing that gets warmed by good websites. Hope that helps! :D

I don't work for the site or anything but seriously. Come on.
D-Toid and Hudson have had connections for a while now.
Further, websites don't run themselves. If having a reskin allows the site to continue to run their crazy contests, not to mention keep the lights on, that's fine.
People talk a wonderful good game about not sellingout, not doing shit for "the machine" and all that wonderful buzzword rebel shit, but pull your heads out of your own ass for a minute. A corporation is nothing but some mom and pop organization that got their shit together and started being successful on a huge scale. So by that rationale, if D-Toid gets too successful, its clearly got to go to shit?
Just come off that inane bullshit. The reskin's a decent enough temp change, Deca Sports is what it is, no one's bought a fucking review score and you still are part of one of the best blog/community sites for video games.
I mean really. You're at once like "I love you guys", but also calling those same people out for a "cash grab", when that very same business partnership yieled the Destructoid bot appearing in Bomberman and a few great moments of close interaction with Hudson (See the visit to Hudson that Niero did, as well as the interview with RetroForceGO). That's pretty damn rude. Like hanging out at somebody's house, taking a sheet of their stationary and writing "fuck you" on a note to them while you're munchin' on their finely laid out tea cookies. What the shit?
Pardon my venom, but bitching about a business partnership that yielded some cool shit for the site as "selling out" seems real fuckin' childish to me.

As for the "cash grab," I don't mind these kind of site skinnings, since they're always tied to some big giveaway. However, I think it's hard for people to tolerate them for some piece of shit like Deca Sports. I realize Dtoid has to get money somewhere and that you're buddy-buddy with Hudson, and I like them too. However, how did no one along the way realize that no one cares about Deca Sports? If you're going to skin the site, please at least make sure people are getting something more than demo discs for a Wii Sports knock-off with horrible art design.
Beyond that, the site redesign (minus colors) does look good, and the rest of the ad system seems fine.

Plus I noticed the site is getting slower and slower to load for me. Pages that used to load up lightning fast now regularly take much longer. I've talked to other people who have noticed it too, so it's not just me.

The real "sold out" test will be when the review for Deca Sports arrives.
If it gets an undeserved score a part of will die :(
Otherwise I don't mind the ads that much, after all they have to make a profit.

But then I'm the sort of person who, ya know, doesn't judge games before he's played them?
