Oh NO you DID'T!
No it's not coming, at all. Because as you said Sony does not own the rights to the music, it's not a theme song they made for the game (unlike other games that get theme songs exclusively made for the game). Microsoft no doubt paid the rightful license holders for it.
And it's not like sony didn't copy tons of other things from microsoft, so it doesn't really matter :| It's a good song, I like it, and I don't mind hearing it.
I thought the commercial was stupid though.
Garison: It's Di'int. Having the second D makes it sound funny.
@Aurain: I appologize.
@DAO2SKP: I understand that it's a good song, and it really does fit the commercial quite well, I just think it's funny that Microsoft had to pick the one song most played in LBP, one of Sony's flagship PS3 titles, and put it in their commercial. Just comes off as very cocky.
But I wouldn't expect any different of Microsoft.
I'm going to attempt to restrain my inner fanboy on this one, but Microsoft is obviously saying something with that song, to Sony. Let's be realistic here, whether or not Sony owns the rights to the song, Microsoft is well aware that this very song was considered a theme song to LBP (a major PS3 title). It's pretty obvious that they're trying to fuck with Sony on this one.
@IronPikeman Psycological Warfare....I LIKE it!
Damn, that's sad. If they didn't do it on purpose and if they did.
When I close my eyes and listen to that song I see Sackboys running around.
I've seen this story go around the Internet and it is ridiculous. This tune has been a staple background tune of commercials and TV trailers for years, long before LittleBigPlanet ever used it.
It's not "LittleBigPlanet music," it's music that LBP happened to use.
I think this will psychologically backfire on Microsoft... when I see that commercial it immediately makes me think of Little Big Planet and it immediately makes me glad I have a PS3 and can play the game.
For those unfamiliar with gaming, the commercial is just a commercial... but for anyone who follows gaming quite closely it just seems ironic that they chose music closely related to a game that is not on their platform.
Jesus Christ, folks.
The band is called The Go! Team. The song was not made exclusively for LBP, it was made for their cd they released damn near six years ago. I know it's hard to believe, but trust me, it's true, because I've owned the cd for 6 years.
If you have ever listened to any of the music that The Go! Team has put out, you'd instantly say to yourself, "Wow, this would work great for a commercial or TV show." End of story. Stop trying to stoke the fires of fanboy flame war.
The band puts out great music, and marketing teams use that. While it's stupid that they had to use the same song, it's probably because it's the catchiest song they have for marketing.
LOL, Ill be honest with you, I fucking hate Microsoft commercials. Actually to be more specific I hate video game console commercials that have people in them playing the fucking thing and making it seem like its the most fun they have since they got there first Ice cream cone. It just looks so god damn fake, and I cant stand it. I dont understand how people can look at that and think, "oh that looks like fun", I look at it and think, "look how fucking retarded the actors look when there trying to sell this product to us". But I see all things in life through a cynical filter anyways.
There's obviously nothing wrong with using that song, but I don't think it was smart of them. Many people immediately think LBP when they hear that song. That's gonna distract you more than anything.
FREE!?!
What's free?
@ Takeshi
LOL... It's like
"Sugarplum's Dancing in your head."
(( Because LBP is one of a few of your favorite things... NO? ))
@ Brainderailment
I never said anything was free.
Except those Meth Cigaretts. Amirite? lol.
No, the ad says "connect to the internet for free". Technically that is true, but you can't do anything but download updates and demos for free.
@ brainderailment
That's the subject of a whole new CBlog.
Hmmm,
If one wereto get the 360 from watching this commercial... I feel bad for them.
Jim and Tazar have great points, but anyone who played LittleBigPlanet is going to be distracted while watching the commercial.
@BS3
Yes!
@Garison
Exactly my thoughts.
I still don't see the big deal. Its a popular song from a group that has become popular in the United States well before the release of LittleBigPlanet. Its a catchy song.
