An article on GoNintendo.com revealed an interesting new feature of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. According to a poster on the GameFAQs forum, Corruption will deal out tokens for doing various activities. The tokens come in four flavors: red, blue, green, and gold. Each token corresponds to a different type of event.
Red tokens are distributed for scanning enemies, blue tokens are given for scanning lore, gold tokens are given for defeating bosses, and green tokens are called "friend vouchers". Basically, you don't get to keep the green tokens. Using WiiConnect24, the tokens are apparently sent to your friends, allowing them to see your progress. You can see the token in the beginning of the embedded video below.
It's great to see that developers are finding ways to create online communities with the Wii's lackluster online service. Hopefully, other developers will utilize WiiConnect24 to its full potential. Mario Strikers Charged and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are good indications of the Wii's capabilities.
OK, enough joking around. It's kinda cool I guess, although if I got hundreds of messages per day from people telling me they just unlocked a new achievement, I'd probably keep my online status as appear offline permenantly.
I understand your speculation. I had to watch the video myself to confirm but it looks to be true. I hope it doesn't send out messages. Maybe it'll be a leaderboard type thing.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Boasting!!

And while it might not be multiplayer, I'm okay with it. The multiplayer in Prime 2 sucked, anyways.
