Super Smash Secrets
B-Radicate | 8:29 AM on 09.12.2007 13 comments

While checking out BlindsodeDork's daily Super Smash Bros. update, I wrote a reply that got me thinking rather seriously. Everyone with even a slight interest in the new Super Smash Bros. game knows that the game's website, the Smash Dojo, releases daily updates with some form of new content every single day. Whether it's playable characters, stages, items, music tracks, what have you, there is always something new every business day of the week.

This got me thinking. For the next however many weeks until the game launches in early December they will release at least 5 (there have been known to be double updates) pieces of (usually) secret information. Now, they have already dropped some big names into the brawl with the introduction of new characters and features and the like. But, what do you all think will be the SUPER big announcements that they can't make until the week leading up the game's release?

Who will be so top secret that they will wait until the day before the game releases to announce their existence? Could it be Sonic the Hedgehog, the long-time rumored contender since the Melee days? More third-party characters akin to Solid Snake whose name has not been mentioned since the original E3 trailer 2 years ago?

Who do you all wanna see make the cut? Who do you not want to know about until you already know you're buying it anyway (knowing that for most of you that day has already passed anyway)?

Personally, I wanna see Vectorman. That green lil orbed robo-bastard would be AWESOME! He could transform into his different vehicle forms and fire off all his different types of ammo from the Genesis days. It'd be cool as hell. But, alas, I'm sure I'm the ONLY person who would want him over most every other Nintendo character.

Only time will tell, won't it?

*fingers crossed*

Rayman seems like a possibility. I'd love to see an Assist Trophy of a Rabbid. I would just piss my pants!

Don't expect old Genesis names to drop in. All the characters featured either have recent games or mentions of a new game like Pit.

PS: Blindside...not Blindsode.
B-Radicate's Destructoid Blog
Oops! Sorry, man. I knew that. My bad.

I think a rabbid is highly plausible AND I agree that old Genesis characters are not likely at all, however, Vectorman is just my dream character. That's all.

I'm still holding out hope for a Belmont. Castlevania was huge on the NES and SNES, and again on the GBA and DS. But alas, Castlevania is one of those series that's much more popular outside of Japan than it is in the Land of the Rising Sun, so I'm not sure it'd happen.

I just wanna know when they're going to "officially" reveal Snake.

I'd like to see old school Mega Man join the cast myself.

Mega Man should be in that....i mean cereal! Wii has made Capcom very nicely rich, so why the heck not?

Resident Evil characters would be less liekly. They look too realistic.

Yea Meg man would be an amazing additon, and his final smash could vary randomly to different bosses powers. Damn it, why do you people get my hopes up like this?
B-Radicate's Destructoid Blog
Or Mega Man's final smash could vary depending on the last opponent he knocked out. That would be like in the games where he gained their powers after beating a boss. That'd be awesome!

I officially concur, Mega Man should be in the game.

Way to one up my awesome idea with an even awesomer idea B-Radicate.
BlindsideDork's Destructoid Blog
They wouldn't do that for final smash for MM...

I did a blog linking to my forum page about dream characters. I outlined what I think Mega Man's moves would be here in my forum post

I just want more characters.

Angels is right.

I'm honestly hoping that even with 5 updates a week, we still don't know about large amounts of the game when it finally hits. Knowing everything would take the fun out of it.

@ cowzilla: Sorry! (it IS a cool idea, though, isn't it? maybe like blindsidedork said, it won't be a Final Smash but perhaps some form of power stealing like Kirby, only he could retain each power throughout the match and use them over and over!?)

@angels: I wholeheartedly agree.

@necros: Again, I wholeheartedly agree with you, but at this rate, unless this game is the most epic of all time, it seems like they will run out of sauce to feed us every week.
