This will be a short post, as I am currently in the middle of class, but I just saw
this on IGN.
It appears that EA has extended its hold on the NFL license to 2012 (an additional 3 years). I dunno how many of you are sports games players (I'm personally not one) but this should still frustrate if not enrage us, as a community.
I don't play sports games and know that NFL2K was a better series and that the Madden games have suffered ever since this deal was first announced.
How do you all feel about this little monopoly that EA has going? Moving towards more original and high quality IPs, eh? Yeah, I call shenanigans on that shit.
Again, I'd include a picture of Uncle Moneybags with a witty caption, but I'm in class. I apologize.
I don't play sports games either but thats bullshit. EA shouldn't be allowed to do this but it's really the NFL's fault for whoring out their brand.
I hate Madden with a passion. They have NOW exclusive rights to college basketball or football now too.... I believe it's college basketball.
Yeah, I don't particularly like EA Sports titles. (Fight Night : Round 3) is a gem however. I do like their Burnout & NFS titles to though.
EA in its current state shouldn't be allowed to exist at all.
I loved the NFL2K series on Dreamcast, even got one for Xbox if I remember right. Never been a fan of Madden.
Man... I loved the 2K series. 2K5 on the Xbox was sex in football form. (I'm not much of a sports guy, but I've been hooked on video football ever since the Tecmo Bowl days). I was so disappointed with All Pro 2K8, and it's sad that EA doesn't seem to understand that competition would only make their own games better.
@BS3: The first NFS title was decent. They had the right idea with Burnout up until the recent Paradise. Fight Night 3 really is a damn fine game, just never finished it.
You know I was thinking there was a Madden that was held back near the launch of the PS1. And If I remember right it was going to be pretty much the 16 bit Madden transfered over to the PSX but they decided not to do so because of Sony's NFL Game Day's success and not wanting to look like a turd in comparison. This in my opinion is why competition is good.
The 2K series also pushed Madden to be better. I was very sad when they made the newest All-Pro Football 2K8 and didn't really take the opportunity to show EA how it was done. But thankfully I don't care for most sports games. I just don't like a company not having to try cause there is no competition.
The fondest NFL game memory I have was "Joe Montana Football" for the Sega Genesis
I had a pretty long comment going, but I’m just going to turn it into a blog post. This extension doesn’t make me particularly happy, but it’s not because I loved NFL 2K5 — in fact, I’ve always preferred EA Sports’ games to 2K Sports’ games. I won’t really have a problem with this, if — and this is a BIG if — EA can do a fantastic job with Madden NFL 09 this year...ON BOTH CONSOLES. I bought Madden NFL 08 on the PS3, played it about three times, and then got rid of it on Goozex because of how awful it was compared to the 360 version.
@BS3 Owner:
Dear Venguaq.
This doesnt hurt me as bad as what they have been doing with nba live recently. when live first introduced the freestyle control wit the right stick they were miles ahead of 2k. sadly they started taking on unnecesary things instead of evolving. the only comparable franchise is sonic
There's still hope. Activision is coming out with EFL(European Football League) 08, with all-star Cletus Fuckhat.
If Cletus Fuckhat is not on the cover, I ain't buying it.
