That's right, all you GTA4-havers you! Spare a thought for those of us who have to wait for a PC version if any, or for the PS3 to become reasonable because they know most of the good 360 stuff is or will be on the PC. Or maybe that won't last, with developers calling "piracy!" and shifting to the consoles. Not that I blame them, but it sucks that in a way, I am being punished for other people's inflated sense of entitlement. That is not something I care to rant over, so I will move on to big robots carving each over up.
For those that don't know, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is a recent addition to Japan's Gundam franchise, having just finished it's first season. Set in it's own continuity it follows the secretive organisation "Celestial Being" in their bid to end all conflict. The way to do that, of course, is to have better mechs than them (the titular Gundams) and blow the fuck out of everyone's armies until they all agree to play nice. CB are, if you ask me, a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites even if they have the best of misguided intentions, but the Gundams are cool.
I'm not clear on the presumably touchscreen-driven controls at work here but if that is real gameplay footage it plays very fast and smooth, and has pretty decent 3D graphics for the DS. On hearing the series would be getting a DS game, I assumed it would be a quick cash-in, especailly given BanDai's recent record for Gundam titles. though now I may have to see about importing (I'm not holding out on an English language version unless I hear the show is licence and will show very soon in the west), though at the same time it looks to include an RPG element and a lot of text. As good a reason as any to knuckle-down and get learning the moonspeak then.
There is also something about plastic Gundam kits in there, again, I don't speak much Japanese yet so I really have no idea what that's about. That also means I don't know if there are multiplayer battles or any chances to play as non-Gundam pilots like Graham Acre, my favourite character of the series.
In the meantime, this has reminded me to play some more old mech games, think I'll spin Zone of Enders later.

I feel obliged to comment on any "Gandam"-related posts. That game actually doesn't look that bad. Is Gundam 00 any good, or will I dislike it since I'm a UC snob?
Poor Ror, his xenophobia got to him again.
I love the ridiculous plot of Gundam 00. "To stop violence in the world, we use our super powered weapons and kill everyone who is violent"
@Char Aznable
I liked 00 quite a lot, though it's the first Gundam I have ever seen and my first Mecha series after Gurren Lagaan and Code Geass (if the latter even counts) so I don't have much of a frame of reference. Plenty of good characters though, and it subverts a few conventions of anime and general storytelling here and there.
Holy shit! The game looked amazing in motion. Must...play...00 DS...
Ah, nice. I'll have to check it out.
Do yourself a huge favor and go back to the original Gundam series. Some of the animation may be a bit dated, but I personally like the old animation style, where every show didn't look exactly the same.
Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, the list goes on. All good stuff.
