If I'm playing a game where they give you combinations for stuff that's not in that room, I'll usually write it down irl. Because I have horrible short-term memory.
I never look back at things or write them down on a piece of paper. I just try to remember everything...which I usually fail at...
I too write things down and the 1st Silent Hill is a damn good example. Playing that song on the piano required a pen and paper.
I can usually just remember stuff unless it's a rather lengthy code, combination or pattern that I'll need a long way down the line.
I've mostly got a notepad closeby to write some stuff down...
recently I've even started posting my laptop close to my seat so I can do some 'research' online while playing :-)
@mistic
Gamefaqs is NOT research!
I miss games that make me WANT to do that. Haven't played one for a while that has made me care, for example, as much as the safe's code in FF7, figuring stuff out etc.
@sugarape
Im with you man, no game has made me want to do that in a long time. SH 1 and 2 I did it, and a few old point and click games I cbf naming. Most puzzles in games now don't require that much effort to solve.
