Hey you ! How did you get your name?
Avid | 4:02 PM on 09.20.2007 32 comments

Whats up C-Bloggers and C-Blog readers, I have a simple question.
How did you get your online name? Was it handed down to you from your great grandfather the pacific ocean bacon pirate? Or was the birth of your handle more of a scientific process. Give me the down low in the comments.

How did I get my name?

It's kinda boring and technical. Heres the story, I originally started with the name 'President' which I gave myself because I was the leader of a clan for Rainbow Six back in 1997. I was just a kid so it sounded hardcore to me..

Turns out I just got made fun of everyday. Eventually I changed my name to 'Pyro' when Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear lauched. After a while I felt that was to generic so I changed it to 'Pyrex'. Then i figured out Pyrex is actually a form of high temperature glass.

Damn! I liked the way that name sounded and people called me Rex for short.. Ya stupid dog name.. 'Pyrex' then evolved like a pokemon on steroids into 'Rexm'. I rolled with that name for a few months and then eventually realized it sounded stupid as hell. Around this time I was hardcore with Unreal Tournament, I wanted a name that was futuristic and maintained the elite letter 'X'. 'Rexm' now became 'Xero'. Yes finally a name I liked but no one could pronouce it.

As time passed I signed up for MSN Zone to play some Age of Empires: Age of Kings this was around 1999. Xero was already taken so they generated the name 'Avid' infront of Xero. I liked it. It stuck with me and eventually when Xbox Live came around people had to say my name, no one could pronouce Xero so Avid became my first name. Here I am today.. 'Avid X' ; gamertag avid x3ro.

I never really had one name I stuck too for any length of time. Then I wanted to join the local LAN group, and I decided that I needed a handle that I would stick to, and woldn't need to change. I also wanted something that was impossibly unique, so that I wouldn't have to have a dozen numbers after my name everywhere I signed up.

I always kinda liked kevlar being in my name because it's bulletproof... but it isn't too unique of a name on it's own, so I needed to add something else... For a while I was thinking about using "kevlar boxers" or something like that... but I kinda wanted something more serious. don't know why I settled on gibs... maybe because it's slightly oxymoronic.

the only changes I've made since I picked this name was to take the space or underscore out from the middle. so now it's just all one block of letters. "KevlarGibs"

When I left my mod position over at gFAQS, I decided to start completely over. So the name I had used ever since the beginning of my intarwebs travel ended. I needed a new one.

This was the first thing I thought of and I liked it. And it stuck.

I... Design DVD's for a living.

Yeah.

I used to work on VHS tapes, but DubbingIntern didn't have quite the same ring. Plus the Gmail address was already taken.

I was at a friend's house and he was playing Fire Emblem on his GBA. Meanwhile, I was on his Xbox playing Alien vs. Predator. He kept on telling me about one of his guys, named Oswald, who pretty much raped anything he came into contact with. In AvP, there are these weird cow things called Oswocs. I accidentally called Oswald Oswoc once and from then on, Oswoc = me.

Later, during the days I was addicted to Diablo II (Blizzard's games are like crack to me), I made a Druid named, of course, Oswoc. I decided to go chill in the Druid Grove chat channel. There I was promptly made fun of and called names such as 'god cow.' I thought that was a sweet name so I went to go make a new character called that, but the name was taken. Then I thought it'd be cool if I changed the 'c' to a 'k.'

And that is where god.kow came from(I added a period to separate the words because of gmail, but that's a whole other story.)

Really great drawing dude !_!

Pretty easy explanation. Tiff is my name and '.tiff' is an image file. I'm a graphic designer so it seemed mighty appropriate. Too bad elephant can't process the punctuation before my name...yet.

Neonie
I had to come up with a name for a medevial MUD. Eon wouldent work becuase it had to be more then three letters. So I switched some stuff around and came up with Neonie. And ever since then Neonie has been my user name for everything I sign up for becuase of it's originality, lack of numbers, and the fact that no one else usally has it. (Excpet those stupid French ass holes who stole it from me).

Well, I always really loved the name Sage. I loved playing as Sages in games like Ragnarok so it stuck. I wanted to add to it since sage is not always available, hence pinksage.

My GT is Ichigo Sage because:

1) pinksage was taken
2) Anime 'Bleach'
3) My friends used to call me Ichigo at school

I played linebacker & fullback all through school. Because I could out-lift all the lineman the coaches said I had the strength of a gorilla. So Silverback became my nickname and 55 was my number.

I used to go by oddity a long time ago. I got that name from asking my friends to use one word to describe me. As for LostCrichton, it's because I'm a die hard Farscape fan.

Tristero
My name comes from the Thomas Pynchon novel The Crying of Lot 49. Tristero is the name of an underground mail service conspiracy that delivers packages through buckets hidden under freeway overpasses (and through other nefarious means). I also have a tattoo from the book, the Tristero muted post horn symbol.

That sounds pretty sweet Tristero, past a link to the tattoo.
